The Lights on Knockbridge Lane

“Feeling cozy and loved and together is more important than scientific truth.”

The Lights on Knockbridge Lane by Roan Parrish

September 30, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

It’s another Garnet Run book! Like the previous books, there’s loads of pets in this one, but they’re not as cuddly as cats and dogs… This book is about family – the ones you choose to make, and how you can keep choosing them. While this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone without any issue. “Adam’s mission was clear: In order to convince his daughter that they could still have a wonderful Christmas despite leaving Mason, their home, […]

Ghosts of Greenglass House by Kate Milford

July 26, 2021 by Ellesfena Leave a Comment

Bingo square: Pandemic Series: Greenglass House. This is Book #2, I read and reviewed Book #1 last October. What I remembered about this series prior to reading this book: Smugglers, Christmas, thieves, tabletop roleplaying games, and adoption issues handled with sensitivity. I enjoyed Greenglass House quite a bit. Why I stopped reading the series: I wasn’t sure if I needed to know more about the characters–I felt good with where they were after Book 1. I might have picked up Book 2 even if I weren’t trying […]

Twelve Terrors of Christmas by John Updike

February 22, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I just want to type out the entire review from the publisher copy for Twelve Terrors of Christmas (or) 12 Terrors of Christmas. This John Updike book is a “Your Mileage Will Varey” depending on your sense of humor (or lack thereof) and your appreciation or dislike of Edward Gorey as an illustrator. The publisher copy says things like, “depictions of Yuletide mayhem” by Gorey. And Updike has “wryly jaundiced [examinations]” of each theme. Nothing is sacred, from Santa and his red suit, to sitting […]

Go Nutcracker! Go!

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King: The Graphic Novel by Natalie Andreson

February 22, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Having never read the original version of The Nutcracker, I only have various (mostly cartoon) movie imagery to reference. Therefore, I am not sure how close to the text in this book is to that original story. But The Nutcracker and the Mouse King: The Graphic Novel is a version that seems to follow what I know from the movies. Whether it is good, or close or something altogether other, that is up to the reader. Natalie Andreson has the basics of E. T. A. […]

Santa is a Swindler

The Santa Claus Man by Alex Palmer

January 13, 2021 by chelz.hawk Leave a Comment

“At such a thrilling time in New York City, it did not seem ridiculous to trust the Santa Claus Man, but rather, ridiculous to doubt him.” In 1913, a man named John Duval Gluck Jr. requested that the General Post Office of New York City direct all letters to Santa to his small office in the back of a local chop house. For the past two years, the Post Office had been looking for an organization to properly handle these letters, saddened by the idea […]

Talia Hibbert writes cute novellas too

Wrapped Up in You by Talia Hibbert

December 30, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

Will and Abbie have known each other since they were children. Will and Abbie’s twin brother are best friends. It turns out that both Will and Abbie have been in love with each other since they were teens, but neither had the guts to tell the other. Will went off to become a big-time movie star in Hollywood, Abbie met and married someone else (and later went through a painful divorce with said someone). It’s been two years since they saw each other, as Abbie […]
