“I guess maybe that’s how it works in families that love each other unconditionally. You can fight without fear of losing them, and be honest without consequences or repercussions.”

Kiss Her Once For Me by Alison Cochrun

January 3, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

I’m two for two with Alison Cochrun! Although, for me, the slight edge goes to The Charm Offensive, I still really enjoyed my time with this second book of hers. Last Christmas, Ellie met Jack in Powell’s when they both went for a copy of Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home, and over a cute argument over “shared custody”, and Jack poking gentle fun at Ellie (who had been crying alone and talking to a footstool as if it were her friend) they start to bond. Jack […]

Sorry this isn’t really a review but I’m posting it anyway because I want everyone to read this book.

Make You Mine This Christmas by Lizzie Huxley-Jones

December 31, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Oh you’d best believe i have some quotes to post from this delightful book. But tomorrow bc I’m tired. Okay, it’s tomorrow, here are some quotes. Honestly, the plot in this one is four-star but the writing is what bumped it up to a five for me. This book vibrates at exactly my frequency and thus I am insulted it did not receive a print release and isn’t being widely read. The dialogue in this book made me want to pack up my life and […]

If the Fates Allow by Rainbow Rowell

November 18, 2021 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

A few weeks ago, I saw an announcement on Rainbow Rowell’s Instagram that she was releasing a holiday short story this year and I rejoiced. I like Rowell’s short form work as much as I like her novel length ones. I’ve read Kindred Spirits, her 2016 take on fandom and waiting in line for Star Wars. Rowell also has holiday themed ones: Almost Midnight, 2017’s collection that includes both Kindred Spirits and Midnights. Midnights tracks a pair across several years’ worth of New Year’s Eves […]

Four Christmas Romance Novellas, No Gifts

November 24, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 1 Comment

That’s right, I was reading Christmas novellas in October (and reviewing them in November). You Had Me At Christmas: A Holiday Anthology with contemporary romances by Karina Bliss, Stephanie Doyle, Jennifer Lohmann, and Molly O’Keefe also included a Laura Florand novella called Snow-Kissed which I reviewed separately. The anthology let me try four new-to-me authors and while I’m not sure I’ll be racing out to buy more of their books, in a genre with this much choice and so many writers to wade through, this […]

Tough Sledding in a Christmas Novella

Snow-Kissed by Laura Florand

November 23, 2016 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

To sum up: All About Romance Annual Reader Poll Winner for Biggest Tearjerker (2014) Snow-Kissed is the story of a once happy couple whose fertility challenges have left them both heart-broken for their lost children and seemingly unable to reach each other. It’s not a light read, but it was one with a very real sense of grief and pain. Kai and Kurt have lost three pregnancies and each time the recovery became more difficult. Kurt did everything he could to support Kai but, as […]
