Very sweet “friends to lovers” romance

November 17, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

Hazel Bradford is rather intense and most people, certainly the guys she’s ever shown any interest in, can’t really handle her, or prefer to deal with her in small doses. Her spirited enthusiasm and quirky personality is ideal in her work as a fourth grade teacher, however, and the friends she does have love her to bits and appreciate her for who she is. Josh Im may be one of the most laid back men Hazel has ever met. They got to know each other […]

“This is How We Reveal Ourselves […] the Reactions We Can’t Hide”

July 16, 2018 by Lisa Bee 5 Comments

It seems like I’ve been on a bit of a YA romance kick this year, and I think it’s because there is nothing quite like a sweet story about first loves. And this thoughtful novel by writing-duo Christina Lauren delves not only into this area of young love, but also largely focuses on what it means to grow up queer in a largely religious area that doesn’t support this facet of humanity. Autoboygraphy is largely from the point of view of a teenager named Tanner, who […]

Cute contemporary, bantery, love to hate to love romance.

June 7, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

This book isn’t normally my genre (contemporary, or contemporary romance). But I make exceptions if I’ve read and liked books by the author before, or if someone whose tastes that are similar to mine says a book is worth checking out. Dating You / Hating You fits into both categories. I loved this author duo’s YA book Autoboyography when I read it last month, and this book in particular was a favorite of y’all here at the CBR romance reading hivemind when it first came […]

“Everything feels yes.”

May 3, 2018 by narfna 8 Comments

I thought this was lovely, and I’m so glad I picked it up on a whim. I really only have two complaints. I had such a good time reading it, I put it on my wishlist immediately, and can see myself upping this to five stars in the future when maybe those complaints won’t matter as much to me. This is a young adult coming of age romance between two boys. One (Tanner) is a bisexual eighteen-year old whose family moved to Provo, Utah when […]

Romance in the workplace

April 20, 2018 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Like many good romance novels I’ve discovered, I first heard of Dating You/Hating You (2017) by Christina Lauren* on the Cannonball website. However, like it often happens, by the time I found and read the book, I couldn’t remember whose review led me to the book in the first place. I think it was described as a hate-to-love workplace romance, similar to The Hating Game. Anyway, after I was surprisingly enchanted a couple of years ago by The Hating Game, I’ve become more accepting of hate-to-love romances. I figured that […]

NOT one of the Top 10 romances of the year. Not even Christina Lauren’s best romance this year.

December 31, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

Holland Bakker is trying to be a writer, but two years after graduating from college, still doesn’t really feel like she has anything to write about. The apartment she lives in is in part paid for by her wealthy uncles, and even her job, as a stagehand/photographer at the Broadway theatre where her uncle is the musical director is thanks to him. She’s feeling adrift and like a bit of a scrounger, and desperately wishes she could find some purpose. For more than six months, […]
