Like a Hallmark rom com, only good

In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren

December 17, 2020 by Nart 3 Comments

If you love wholesome, funny holiday love stories, you will love this book. Plot: Young woman (I’m old, 26 feels young to me now) who has kind of moved through life passively, has the worst Christmas ever at a cabin her family and extended chosen family spend every Christmas together. On their drive back to the airport, she makes a wish for the universe to show her what would make her happy, and they promptly get into a car accident. She wakes up on the […]

Needed more groveling.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Mixed feelings about this one! Overall, I liked it. Parts of it I liked a lot. Other parts made me hopping mad. The premise of this book is extremely silly, but the authors manage to make it work, and ground it in something real, so that’s always fun to have happen. Olive Torres is an identical twin, and her sister Ami is getting married. Olive also hates her sister’s husband’s brother, Ethan, and they have disliked each other for years. Due to food allergies and […]

Friends to lovers – but not the greatest of reads

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

July 9, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

#CBR12 Bingo: Friendship (the friendship between the two protagonists and the rest of their group is really central to the story) Official book description: Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single. So when a routine university function turns into a black-tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that […]

Two Very Different Sisters in Relationships With Two Very Different Brothers

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

June 16, 2020 by Tracy Leave a Comment

Ooh, I think this is the review where I reach my quarter cannonball goal! (Though I have an unofficial goal to get to a half cannonball.) I really enjoyed The Unhoneymooners. Olive and Ethan are, respectively, the (twin) sister of the bride and the brother of the groom who are getting married when the novel starts. During the reception, everyone gets food poisoning except for Olive and Ethan; they were the only ones who hadn’t eaten from the seafood buffet. Olive’s sister Ami had won […]

A good read, but only if you can turn your brain all the way off

Beautiful by Christina Lauren

April 14, 2020 by Nart Leave a Comment

This book is the last in the Beautiful series. I actually tried to get into it a long while ago and DNFd the first book for reasons I no longer remember. I’ve since read two Lauren books I’ve enjoyed (Unhoneymooners and Dating You Hating You) and another I DNFd (Roomies). So suffice to say Lauren is very hit and miss for me. This one is one of her highest rated books, so I deviated from my hard rule on chronology to see if I could […]

It’s tough to pull off a mass-puking scene in a romance novel, but apparently not impossible

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

March 10, 2020 by Lynn 1 Comment

My first introduction to Christina Lauren was Beautiful Bastard, a tome that I definitely did not love, and one that my fellow Cannonballers appear to also not love. But, I’m a sucker for an easy read, and The Unhoneymooners came pretty highly recommended, so I thought I’d give the duo another shot. And it was fine. In fact, it was pretty good. It’s not high literature, but sometimes you just want a goofy enemies to lovers hate romance with some pretty quality bow chica wow […]
