“It never occurred to me that you might be mine.”

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren

December 29, 2021 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

One of the prevailing bits of wisdom running around if you happen to find yourself with COVID (which I probably do – not to worry, I’m not feeling too poorly, have plenty of supplies, and have a test scheduled) is to avoid screens. With that in mind, and cognizant that my brain does not want to focus on anything weighty (which is seriously impinging on my ability to finish So You Want to Talk About Race and Eva Luna) I settled in on the couch […]

Okay, it is a lot cheesy, but also a cute love story

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

June 29, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Note: all images shamelessly stolen from the internet as I really got into the Simon & Schuster free online books this month.   I was on the fence about Autoboyography by Christina Lauren (or Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings). I was not sure I was reading for another GLBTQ book so soon after the others I had read, and frankly thought the cover too cute. And when I got into the book, the “meet cute” romance tone of the story explained the cover. And yes, […]

Christina Lauren goes full Nicholas Sparks

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

April 11, 2021 by Nart Leave a Comment

Christina Lauren is hit and miss for me. Lauren’s novels are always well written and edited and have a strong emotional core. If you like *intensely* angsty stories, plot and character consistency be damned (no shade), I think you may really enjoy this book. Plot: Macey’s mom died, so her dad bought them a vacation home to give her a place to relax when she was overwhelmed by life. Next door lives Elliot, a kid who really loves to read. Macey also loves reading. They […]

I forgot how recently I read this book, but I liked it

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

March 17, 2021 by LaneyFace Leave a Comment

Here comes my favorite trope again—enemies to lovers! Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners follows Olive Torres, a perennially unlucky woman whose twin sister marries the brother of Olive’s arch-nemesis, the handsome and affable Ethan. When the newlyweds are unable to attend their honeymoon due to an unfortunate bought of food poisoning at their wedding reception, Olive and Ethan are gifted the nonrefundable Hawaiian honeymoon. Reluctant to go, but forced by their respective siblings to accept the trip, Olive and Ethan squabble and verbally spar with one […]

Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

I started the Bridgerton series after watching the eponymous show. I have a bookmark that I love that reads, “Never judge a book by its movie”. I actually preferred the show to the first book in the series. The Duke and I is the basis for the Netflix show, and the plot is essentially the same. Daphne Bridgerton, fourth child and first daughter of the Bridgerton family, is in search of a husband. Simon, the duke of the title, is in search of a way […]

Twice in a Blue Moon

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren

December 25, 2020 by Nart 4 Comments

This is a second chance romance, but if you love a Big Grovel, you won’t find it here. Plot: our heroine is the kind of secret child of a mega star who has been effectively in hiding since her mom took her and they left LA for the solitude of a small town. For her 18th birthday, she goes on vacation to London, meets a super cute boy, and has a whirlwind romance. Which he ends by selling her story to a gossip magazine.   […]
