They Could Break the Ice by Talking About What He Liked in Bed???

March 8, 2017 by Melina 2 Comments

Deacon Thorpe, the first celebrity  television bad boy chef is dead.  Surviving him is his first wife Laurel (a social worker) and their son Hayes…and his second wife (Oscar winning movie star) Belinda and their adopted daughter Angie…oh and his third wife Scarlett (failed photographer and successful anorexic) and their young daughter (a little girl whose name I can’t remember).  His last request is that all three women and all of his children gather together in their summer home American Dream on Nantucket to spread […]

Everyone Loves Gossip…Until It’s About Them #truth

March 3, 2017 by Melina 4 Comments

Set on the idyllic Nantucket island, The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand follows two best friends Madeline and Grace and their families.  From afar, their friendship, their children, their husbands and their talents (Madeline is an author and Grace is a gardener/cook/homemaker extraordinaire) are completely enviable by all around them.  However,  Madeline is having difficulty starting her new book, the advance is already spent and yet she’s completely blocked.  Luckily, she has a wonderful supportive husband who agrees with her that getting a “room of one’s […]

Chick Lit + Sadness = Really Works

February 21, 2017 by Classic 2 Comments

Well this is the first Mansell book I have loved. I think the reason why though is that we follow three separate couples/groups and then we get to see how in the world they all connect up with each other at the end. I maybe cried a bit too when I got to certain parts. I will say that I didn’t buy the character of Flo getting along with her boyfriend’s sister towards the end of the book. She (Lena) I found to be terrible. […]

Faux Big Chill

February 17, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I dithered about this book for a while. There was something bugging me about it and then I realized. I pretty much called every single one of the endings for the characters. I didn’t really like the character (Lindy) who was bisexual being portrayed as “slutty” and the poor girl/woman (Annie) who sat around harboring same lame crush on a guy (Colin) that didn’t want her. I was more interested in the married couple (Catherine and Owen) but even after a while I tired of […]

A Film Noir State of Mind

February 15, 2017 by Mikki Blu 2 Comments

As per the book blurb:  When Clara Bishop, a struggling screenwriter-turned-tabloid journalist in Hollywood, is jilted by her philandering husband, she follows him to London, determined to win him back. Armed with only a glamorous wardrobe of vintage clothing inherited from her grandmother, a former film noir actress, Clara discovers that the clothes really do make the woman. Dressed to kill, she adopts a new femme fatale persona: confident, sexy and set on revenge.  This was a different sort of book that required a suspension […]

Where Classic Gets Bitter

February 13, 2017 by Classic 2 Comments

I didn’t want to be too hard on this book, but sorry it worked my ever loving nerves. What started off as typical chick-lit turned into some hey we are all just the same Kumbaya circle thing that I just got tired of reading. The main character, Katie Brenner, should know enough at her age that no one’s life is perfect. I can’t get over she thought because people were rich that yes they must be happy and be just dancing in the fields singing. […]
