Never Going to Romania…Sorry, Not Sorry

January 27, 2016 by Melina 1 Comment

Follow You Home follows (see what I did there?) Daniel and Laura as they are wrapping up what is supposed to be a trip of a lifetime.  After this, these thirty somethings are going to settle down, have a baby and live an uneventful but happy life in London.  But you know what they say about best laid plans right?  Yeah, everything pretty much goes to hell.  The happy couple find themselves on a train travelling through Romania.  There’s already a little tension because Daniel […]

I think she was high when she came up with the title

January 27, 2016 by Lizbth 2 Comments

Seriously, “once upon a Marquess” has literally zero to do with the plot except that the male lead is a Marquess. I can’t imagine that Milan had anything to do with it unless she was off her tits. Given that she self-publishes, it can’t have been pressure from the publishers. I am a fan of Milan specifically, and I have fond feelings for romance in general, but the naming convention is total sexist bullshit that infantilises the readers and detracts from the genre. Am I […]

Horse Puckey – A Historical Romance

January 27, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 7 Comments

Lovehating Jennifer Ashley’s books continues to be my romance reading pleasurannoyance. This entry into her Victorian Mackenzie series (listed below) isn’t even a kissing book, A Mackenzie Clan Gathering is a story about her most popular hero as the writer cashes in on the success of her novels. I don’t begrudge her that, a woman’s got to eat. HOWEVER, right off the top, I am saying it: I don’t believe that Jennifer Ashley wrote this book. I think it was ghostwritten. There were telltale stylistic […]

This Kid is Going to be Soooooo Messed Up

January 27, 2016 by HasenKlub 2 Comments

As will soon become somewhat of a running theme for my reviews, I’m finally reading a book that came out quite a while ago. I’ve had a very backed-up book queue, alright? Room, by Emma Donoghue, is about a boy who lives with his mother in a small shed. “Ma” was abducted as a teenager and has spent the last seven years in captivity. They story is told through the eyes of Jack, a result of the multiple rapes (the reader is thankfully not subjected […]

Comoran and Robin Complete Me

January 27, 2016 by Melina 4 Comments

The third installment of the Comoran Strike series begins with yet another gory mystery.  Someone delivers a woman’s severed leg to Robin.  While she’s sickened by this (you know, like people are wont to do when they receive body parts in the mail), Strike is less grossed out and more concerned that someone from his past is sending a very clear message that Robin’s life is in danger.  While the police are focusing their investigation on one of the four people Comoran believes it could […]

Sisters Seem Fun Sometimes, Sometimes Not So Fun

January 27, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

So this is final Liane Moriarty book until she publishes something new!  Excuse me while I experience some sadness.  Ok, done. Having just finished the Last Anniversary and the Hypnotist’s Love Story and being mildly disappointed with them both (they were good, not great), I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with Three Wishes.  I’m happy to report that I wasn’t let down.  Three Wishes tells the story of the […]
