“Hush little baby, don’t say a word…”

December 22, 2015 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

After rescuing a kidnapped child from the monstrous Killer Croc, Batman goes in pursuit of Catwoman after she nabbed the pay off money. High above the rooftops, someone cuts Batman’s grappling rope. He breaks his fall – and shoulder – clutching on to a gargoyle before plummeting to the ground in a dank alley. Barely conscious and powerless to help himself, his suit is able to repel a menacing group of thugs long enough for Huntress to arrive and get Bruce to safety. All the […]

Interesting new science fiction series gets off to good start

10 years ago, the Trees arrived. Huge pillar structures landed all over the Earth and lay dormant except occasionally extruding some sort of toxic waste that melts everything it touches. In those 10 years there has been no sign the trees are even aware of our existence. Life has continues on Earth, but the presence of the Trees has changed things. New political structures emerged, cities around the Trees are abandoned to the crime syndicates, and artists. At a Norwegian Tree, strange black flowers are […]

Horror thriller set under the sea is solid but unremarkable

While on patrol off the coast of Syria, the naval submarine USS Nebraska detects a distress call 4000 feet down at the end of a long tunnel. They find a lost Russian submarine from the 1950’s perched on a precipice in the shadow of a massive underwater structure. On board the Russian sub the men find artifacts and ancient texts from the lost Ugarit people, the first known civilization with a written language. They learn the huge building is a sanctum, dedicated to an ancient […]

My linkiest review in a long time, with an assist from Godzilla

December 22, 2015 by Malin 2 Comments

3.5 stars First of all, I want to thank the ever lovely Mrs. Julien, who kindly sent me an Amazon gift card during my continued convalescence. Part of that gift card financed this story. This novella follows four full novels and a novella, which while they’re not strictly necessary to get the full impact of the story, are well worth reading. Start with A Week to Be Wicked, it’s amazing! Miss Elinora “Nora” Browning grew up next to and was taught lessons along with George […]

Lady Judith Worth lost everything when her father and eldest brother, Anthony, was convicted on treason. Her father committed suicide in prison, her brother was sentenced to deportation to Australia. Due to complications during the journey, Anthony never arrived at his destination, and is presumed dead. Since losing their wealth and their privileges, Judith has been the sole breadwinner for two of her younger half-siblings; the spoiled, socially challenged and extremely cat obsessed Theresa and her youngest brother Benedict, who she’s finally saved up enough […]

“It’s ok, I’ve got a really big hammer!”

December 21, 2015 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

The total reboot of DC Comics, called the New 52, has produced some solid hits with Birds of Prey, Batwoman, and Catwoman. All 3 titles feature strong female protagonists that are multifaceted and complex. One of the odder additions was a new line called Suicide Squad. This title brings together some of Batman’s more dangerous foes headlining them as the protagonists. It’s a clever concept. The idea is that many of the super villains Batman or others have captured over the years have skills that […]
