Some books are a meal, The Bone Clocks is a banquet.

March 25, 2015 by TylerDFC 1 Comment

Even if you personally have a hand in a battle against good and evil that shook the very pillars of Heaven, when the smoke clears and the evil is vanquished eventually life will return to normal. While you were locked in your own high stakes fight billions of others walk through their day with their own joys and miseries, burdens and triumphs. While you may have won this particular battle ultimately you can’t save the world. The best you can do is save those you […]

44-Year-Old Novel Finally Published, Worth the Wait

March 24, 2015 by ElCicco 1 Comment

Australian writer Elizabeth Harrower published several well received novels in the late 1950’s and 1960’s. Her much anticipated fifth novel, In Certain Circles, was set to be published in 1971 when Harrower abruptly changed her mind and withheld it from publication. She essentially retired from writing shortly afterward. In 2014, Text Publishing was able to get Harrower to agree to the publication of In Certain Circles, a novel of post-war Australia that focuses on social class, trauma, and their impact on friendships and romantic relationships. […]

Crazy like Heaven

March 24, 2015 by sistercoyote Leave a Comment

Since I was a bit disappointed with the last couple of books I read (one quite a bit more than the other), I thought it was time to go Crazy for a while. Good old Crazy. I love Crazy. I know I shouldn’t. It’s a small, backwater, two-stoplight one-horse kind of town. (Kindle Edition, Location 42)

Historical Romance with an Irresistible Force and an Immovable Object

March 24, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 8 Comments

My reviews of the best of Julia Quinn continue with It’s in His Kiss. The penultimate book in the Bridgerton series, if you don’t count the catch-up novella, it has one of my favourite heroines in romance, and the hero is not so bad either. The writing is, as always, deft and witty, and the banter is especially good, even for a Julia Quinn novel. The youngest child of eight, Hyacinth Bridgerton was born one month after the untimely death of her father. Surrounded by […]

A Disaster at the end of this Book

March 24, 2015 by sistercoyote Leave a Comment

I picked up this novella as part of a Humble Bundle sale, because there were other books I was more interested in reading. But it’s short (99 pages) and I figured since I just finished reading something a little bit on the heavier side I could use a little light reading. Alas. This was not the book I hoped it would be.

Your Murder Is Shedding On The Floor

March 21, 2015 by BlackRabbit Leave a Comment

Life’s full of regrets, mistakes, lost opportunities and bad memories. Sometimes you can see them in someone’s eyes or the way they act, but sometimes they’re hidden under nonchalance and a bright smile. But imagine if you couldn’t hide it-if everyone could see your past sins in a physical form?
