Make sure you have a box of tissues ready when you read this one. Because crying.

All the Bright Places has been showing up in a lot of places lately. I saw it at the library. I noticed reviews of it online from people I trust. I saw comparisons of it to other books I really liked — I’ll Give You the Sun and Eleanor & Park, to name a few. So I knew I had to add it to the list. And I’m glad I did. It really was lovely. And sad. Did I mention it was sad? Because it was really, really sad. Violet […]

I believe Keith Olbermann would call Levana “the worst person in the world”

May 5, 2015 by scootsa1000 Leave a Comment

Have you read Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles, and found yourself thinking, hey, I really hate that nasty Queen Levana…I wonder what makes her tick? If yes, then have I got a story for you. Fairest is a novella that ties itself in with the Lunar Chronicles, and it fits nicely in place after Cress and before the upcoming Winter. And its all about why Levana is such a nasty, conniving, emotionless bitch. Yes, I’m sorry that some terrible things happened to her as a child, and […]

How did everything get so fucked up?

May 5, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 4 Comments

Wow, WOW, W O W. This book definitely lived up to the hype and punched me right in the heart with its awesomeness. Celeste Ng combines tight and thrilling storytelling with a beautifully lyrical writing style. The way she shifts from character to character and past to present seamlessly is beyond remarkable. I can’t believe this is a debut novel. It’s the kind of story that seems effortless when you’re reading it, but in hindsight you can see just how complicated it must have been […]

I Wasn’t THAT Panicked…

May 4, 2015 by Melina Leave a Comment

I finally got around to reading Panic after being burned by the “-ium” series (Delirium, Requiem, and Pandemonium…actually I don’t even think I ever even finished the series, something that shocks me. I can’t not read a book I start (usually), but man, were they baaaaddddd.  Anyways, I have fond memories of Before I Fall and I saw some decent reviews here and elsewhere of Panic, I thought I’d go for it. It helped too, that I’m looking for books for myself and a reluctant teen […]

This is why I am slightly afraid of plants

May 3, 2015 by Lizbth 4 Comments

Melanie is one of a small group of children who are educated at an exclusive facility, with highly trained security personnel and top-tier medical experts on hand. Her education is extensive and varied. She is a precocious and brilliant girl, with an inquisitive personality and a great deal of self-control. Her survival instinct is finely honed. This all comes in very useful when she, her favourite teacher, two of the guards and one of the doctors are forced to flee their facility and run for […]

I hope you appreciate how I didn’t just quote the entire book at you

May 3, 2015 by Malin 3 Comments

Oh people, how do I even start reviewing this book? I’m pretty sure I devoured the whole thing in less than two hours total (in between running errands, meeting up with friends, working and other stuff). I can tell you that for the bits that worked for me (about 75% of the book), I laughed so hard on occasion that my abs hurt. If I’d actually got the final 25%, this book would have been 5 stars, for sure. I kept quoting bits out loud […]
