Contemporary Romances About Soldiers on Leave

August 5, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 2 Comments

Dog Tags and Two Week Seduction each have the word Brazen in their publishing series name, so the reader should know what is about to happen. These romances feature young couples who knew each other as schoolchildren finding out there is more to their relationship when one of them returns home on leave from the military. The forced brevity of their time together, four and two weeks respectively, means they get busy quickly and commitment soon follows. Dog Tags by Darryl Banner Jesse is a music major […]

A Bafflingly Highly-Rated Romance

August 4, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 4 Comments

If it hadn’t been free, I would be so annoyed right now. For the long plot summary of The Alphabet Game go to Amazon. Take your time, it’s a lot. I will do my best to provide a short summary: a. The love story is of the erotic romance ilk meaning that first comes sex then comes emotion. The protagonists decide to play a game (more on why below) in which they participate in some kind of congress based on proceeding through the alphabet, i.e. […]

I give it a thumbs up, even though there is a very suspect lack of Knightley here.

Alexander McCall Smith is a writer that I like very much, but I honestly can’t remember much about the books I’ve read by him. I know I read The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. Maybe I read a few more of those? Maybe something a bit more Scottish? I really don’t know. But I like his easy way of writing and the warm characters that he writes, so while he isn’t a “must” writer for me, I do enjoy his books from time to time. […]

New Adult Romance Requiring Two “It’s Hot in Here” Gifs

August 4, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 7 Comments

Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy who have each published good new adult romances, collaborated on a new one called Him that manages to be enjoyable, well-written, and To be honest the may have overshadowed the story a bit, but I can’t decide how much I mind. Jamie Canning and Ryan (Wes) Wesley were best friends from the age of thirteen to eighteen after meeting at an elite hockey camp in Lake Placid. One night that last year, things got a little out of hand after […]

In the future all of our conversations will be in 80’s movie quotes

August 4, 2015 by TylerDFC 3 Comments

Armada is a summer blockbuster in book form. It’s entertaining, it moves fast, and it’s a fun ride. It’s also not nearly as smart as it thinks it is. Armada walks the line between “homage” and “rip off” on a razor wire. To be honest I’m still not sure which side it ultimately falls on but I’m leaning strongly toward rip off. Aliens are invading Earth and only a group of clandestinely trained gamers can save us. Sound familiar? The X-Files tells us “The truth […]
