Revenge of the Sith

November 14, 2015 by Walking Widdershins 2 Comments

Still working our way through the Star Wars movie novelizations. The good news is that it’s all uphill from here. Watched the movie last night, too. What a stinkeroo, which clearly does not bode well for this book. The whole descent of Anakin Skywalker is just silly, his relationship with Padme is unrealistic and ridiculous, and poor Obi Wan Kenobi is stuck in the middle of this shit show with very little useful to do. So there’s not much to say about this book, since […]

“Oh for the love of God and sprinkled donuts…”

November 14, 2015 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

There’s this virtual reality game environment called MEEP (I have no idea what that stands for, and I think I forgot halfway through the book). People become absorbed in the game, so absorbed that they don’t want to come out again. It’s up to Levellers like Nixy to drag them back to reality. In her newest challenge, Nixy has to enter MEEP to find the son of the game’s inventor. He is lost in the game, and to make the situation more urgent, he left […]

But I can tell you that it involves scary monsters with wings, superstition, and peer pressure. You can read my full review here.

Late to the Party; Still had…Fun?

November 10, 2015 by sistercoyote 2 Comments

“I tested the brackets by hitting them with rocks. This kind of sophistication is what we interplanetary scientists are known for.” So, here’s the thing. I know I’m late to the party (and I haven’t seen the movie yet, either), but sometimes I just get so damn stubborn about the things everybody wants me to check out I won’t try ’em even when I know I’ll like ’em.

Ever Vigilant.

November 8, 2015 by tillie 3 Comments

When I first read this book and put it down I wasn’t sure how I could ever review it. After 6 months I’m still struggling. As I read The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood it became the first book and the last book. All other books are doomed to be the mere shadow of a breath compared to the roaring gasp that is A Handmaid’s Tale. So this will not so much be a review as it will be a quick summary followed by an […]

Eject! Eject Eject Eject! Watch the canopy!

November 5, 2015 by TylerDFC 13 Comments

Friends, I can’t do it. I’m throwing in the towel. I got to page 449 of 1000 (1000 pages for this dreck?!) and I’m done. And I’m counting this as a book because the time I wasted on this thing is going to be for something, dammit. For those of you that know the book I made it to Kvothe foiling the poisoning plot on the Maer in Vintas. So once again the brilliant, clever, handsome, talented and wise 16 year old boy wins the […]
