A historical romance with masks

November 27, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

This is the first in a new series by Lorraine Heath, featuring the Hellions of Havisham. The first of these Hellions is Nicholson Lambert, the Duke of Ashebury. He lost his parents in a gruesome train accident and was sent to the country to be raised by the Marquess of Marsden. Along with him were the Earl of Grayling and his twin brother, orphaned in the same accident. Their parents appointed the Marquess of Marsden their guardian, unaware that Marsden was driven pretty much out […]

NOPE! A Contemporary Romance

November 26, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

It was free. It was sexist. The title is an actual request from the heroine. If a man I was involved with told me not to “worry my pretty little head”, odds are very strong that I would worry his eye with my pretty little finger. From Amazon: Suzy’s a control freak and has her life mapped out – work hard, find a man with a stable job, and live happily ever after. She’s content with the status quo, but her plan comes to a […]

…and they lived happily(ish) ever after.

The final volume of Fables wraps up several plotlines and serves as a conclusion but not an ending. After all, the Fables are quasi-immortal beings and there will always be more stories for them, even if they won’t be told in the series Fables. Farewell wastes no time in quickly dispatching two of the primary antagonists of the recent storyline in order to quickly put the pieces in place for the apocalyptic Rose Red vs. Snow White showdown. The reappearance of Bigby Wolf in New […]

“I don’t want you getting hurt.” “Everybody gets hurt,” she said. “You know that.”

I really loved this book. It’s so magical and romantical! By all accounts I shouldn’t be into this. I’m a grown up, gosh darn it! I need to file taxes and run errands! Yet this book makes me want to declare my undying love, shout at the nonbelievers, “You wouldn’t understand! You’ve never been in love!” It’s about two families of performers. The Palomas have a mermaid show and the Corbeaus perform as fairies on high tree branches. The families have a long-standing feud. Lace […]

Pre and post apocalypse interwoven for an intriguing tale

November 18, 2015 by TylerDFC 2 Comments

The night the fatal Georgia Flu arrives in Toronto, fading movie star Arthur Leander has a heart attack on stage performing the title role in King Lear. Jeevan, a paramedic trainee, rushes to the actor’s aid but it is too late to save him. Kirsten, a young child actress in the production, watches fearful from the wings of the stage. So begins the compelling and surprising Station Eleven. An apocalyptic novel that moves back and forth in time, Station Eleven is a layered and entertaining […]

The Hundred Thousand Meh’s

November 18, 2015 by tillie 1 Comment

This books is called a hundred thousand kingdoms despite the fact that it takes place solely in Yeines head. And not in the intimate epic kind of way. In the “I looked into X’s eyes and I could see why Z loved him” replace X, Z with random God/Godess. Yeine is the ruler of Darr, at 19 years old, when her mother dies, mysteriously. Suddenly Yeine is called upon by her grandfather to be one of the potential heirs to the throne of the Hundred […]
