All Things are Fundamentally Interconnected

March 11, 2014 by Walking Widdershins 3 Comments

Did you know that today (March 11th) is (was) Douglas Adams’ birthday? He would have been 62 today. I wonder what sort of books he’d be writing. Adams is (was) mostly known for the Hitchhiker’s trilogy (yeah, I know), but the Dirk Gently books (I’m assuming there would have been more had he lived longer) were an entertaining series themselves. To attempt to describe the plot of this book would take more brain power than I currently have (stupid daylight savings whatever thing). So – […]

A Tale for the Time Being

March 10, 2014 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

A Tale for the Time Being is a novel about Zen Buddhism, quantum physics, writers and readers, writer’s block and reader’s block, hate and love. It moves fluidly through the past and present and involves some dynamic and admirable female protagonists. Small wonder it was nominated for the 2013 Man Booker Prize (and should have won instead of The Luminaries). The narration moves back and forth between Ruth, a present-day middle-aged writer living on a remote island off the coast of British Columbia, and Nao, […]

Rambles on iTunes Support and maybe a review in there somewhere

March 10, 2014 by Alli Leave a Comment

One of the drawbacks to being so far behind on my book reviews is that I lose many of the thoughts that I may have had about a particular book and then writing the review becomes much harder. I have started writing myself notes in my drafts but alas this one has no notes. One big thing that sticks out in my memory about this one is my audio book drama so I will relay that to you all, lucky you!   So I had […]

“Corona”: Star Trek Novelization Vangie13 cbr #30

March 9, 2014 by Vangie13 Leave a Comment

by Greg Bear “Kirk was eternally fascinated by the procedures for making the Enterprise ship-shape for a long voyage.  He was as familiar with every action as a man watching his wife dress in the morning, and yet…it had that same sort of fascination, of responsibility mixed with some perverse and impossible kind of ownership.  NO individual could own a starship, any more than a man could own his wife. Still, the Enterprise was his .” The Federation loses contact with a Vulcan research station […]

“Star Trek Voyager: Protectors”: Star Trek Novelization Vangie13 cbr #29

March 9, 2014 by Vangie13 Leave a Comment

by Kirsten Beyer “What lay beyond the ledge looked like small stars suspended in the darkness above, and below and emitted the only ambient light in the shaft.”   “Lieutenant Kim and Commander Fife can speak their theories, but conditions were nominal until the tremors began.”   “The Doctor registered a smile creasing his holographic lips that elicited a smile from Glenn.” Thirteen more Old Star Trek books under my belt, and another package from Amazon brings me a newly published one!  Time to take a break […]

Going Viral

March 9, 2014 by Mrs. Taffy Leave a Comment

Tory Brennen is good at science (which isn’t surprising since her aunt is Temperence Brennen, renowned forensic anthropologist), but also good at getting into trouble. When she and her friends Hi, Shelton, and Ben find an old dog tag while searching for a wolf-dog family on Loggerhead Island, an island off Charleston, SC that houses a facility for sea turtle research, Tory sets off a chain of events that not only endanger her life and the lives of her friends, but also change their genetic […]
