Questionable Gendering of Food on the Frontier

The Pioneer Woman Cooks Food from My Frontier by Ree Drummond

October 6, 2024 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 19: Horses I figured that The Pioneer Woman Cooks Food from My Frontier would have some mention (and pictures) of horses; I was right. I figured this cookbook would be pretty basic bad for you comfort food; I was right. I’ve seen the tv show, and I figured the cookbook was going to sound a lot like that. I was wrong. I’m not sure why, but the attempts in the narrative bits between and above recipes trying to sound friendly, cutesy just end up […]

The Burnt Toast B&B (Bluewater Bay Book 5) by Heidi Belleau and Rachel Haimowitz

October 5, 2024 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

CBR16 Bingo: Vintage Derrick is a screw up, or at least he thinks he is. Laid off from his logging job, he moved back home to his parents’ house, which is also a B&B in the small Pacific Northwest town of Bluewater Bay. Losing his parents in a car accident was devastating, and watching their dreams crumble beneath his incompetent fingers is too much to bear. Derrick barely maintains the B&B and relies heavily on Jim, his ex, for emotional support and occasional dog sitting […]

Q: A Voyage Around the Queen by Craig Brown

October 1, 2024 by narfna 2 Comments

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC. It hasn’t affected the contents of my review. I’m so glad I took a chance on this one and requested the ARC. It was so much fun! It avoided literally everything that usually makes me avoid reading biographies: the tedious linear structure, the grandiloquence and navel-gazing that comes with writing about a much-lauded (or controversial) figure (and the author trying to “earn it”), and to be honest, the dull bits. Q: A Voyage Around the Queen is not […]
