Only Bad Options by Jennifer Estep

November 10, 2022 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

CBR14Bingo – New: Though Jennifer Estep’s had a long and prolific writing career, this is the first book of hers that I’ve read. This popped up as a recommendation for me several times on Facebook and Amazon (apparently our AI overlords know that I love sci-fi romance!). So when I saw it was finally released, I couldn’t resist picking it up. While it’s overall a very enjoyable first addition to the series, there were also several things that didn’t quite work for me. Vesper works […]

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

November 9, 2022 by LittlePlat 2 Comments

Tasha Suri is another new author for me. I think I have been doing pretty well this year sussing these out, especially in the fantasy genre. And I have to say, Suri does not disappoint with The Jasmine Throne. I think its going to be one of my favorites of the year.  The Jasmine Throne is a very woman-centred story. If I had to pick a main character, I think Priya pull ahead to get her nose in front. Priya is a kitchen maid in […]

The book "Holiday Heroine" by Sarah Kuhn standing next to a mostly full book bingo card.

Bea Tanaka is living the holiday rom com of her dreams…or is it nightmares? Bingo #6!

Holiday Heroine by Sarah Kuhn

November 9, 2022 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

CBR14 Bingo: “Holiday” Holiday Heroine is the sixth and final volume in Kuhn’s “Heroine Complex” series.  The story of the heroic trio from San Francisco has once again circled to Bea Tanaka.  It’s time for her to learn the lesson that when one leans into their strengths (even if others say they are faults) and reaches out for help when needed, one can truly flourish to be their best self.  This was the what Evie and Aveda needed to learn in volumes four and five. […]

Monstress, vol 1: The Awakening by Marjorie M. Liu and Sana Takeda

November 9, 2022 by Malin Leave a Comment

CBR14 Bingo: Monster (there are several monsters in this story, both humanoid and not) Official book description: Set in an alternate matriarchal 1900’s Asia, in a richly imagined world of art deco-inflected steampunk, MONSTRESS tells the story of a teenage girl who is struggling to survive the trauma of war, and who shares a mysterious psychic link with a monster of tremendous power, a connection that will transform them both and make them the target of both human and otherworldly powers. So total honesty here. […]

A Series Ender that Gave Me Better than I Expected

Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade

November 9, 2022 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I am unsure how to review this book. I loved it. I knew I was going to love it. I am enthralled with the choices Olivia Dade makes with her main characters throughout this three book series (this being the finale following Spoiler Alert and All the Feels). I want everyone to read it and have the same experience that I did. I’m aware that most likely not everyone will as I think there’s a certain kind of lived experience needed to fully grapple with […]
