Lucy Parker writes another keeper

Headliners by Lucy Parker

December 27, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

Disclaimer! I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but this has in no way influenced my review.  While this works fine as a standalone contemporary romance, both characters and some of the events that complicate their relationship early on are introduced in The Austen Playbook, which I can also heartily recommend. Official book description: He might be the sexiest man in London, according to his fan site (which he definitely writes himself), but he’s also the most arrogant man she’s ever met. She might have […]

One final trip to Black’s Faerie realm

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

December 26, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

Spoiler warning! This is the third and final book in the Folk of the Air trilogy. Don’t read this review if you haven’t read the previous two book, it’s impossible to review the story without mentioning events from earlier. If you want to start the series at the beginning (since the series is completed now), The Cruel Prince is the first book. Official book description: “He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.” Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. […]

It’s piles and piles of emotional homework forever if you ever want to qualify as a grown-up

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

December 26, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

Official book description: For Penny Lee, high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she’d somehow landed a boyfriend, they never managed to know much about each other. Now Penny is heading to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer. It’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind. Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on […]

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Vol. 16 by CLAMP

December 25, 2019 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

Why this all began,  Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles read through. Volume 14 – The volume opens with Yuko and Fei-Wang Reed throwing verbal barbs at one another while magically communicating across dimensions.  In Recort, Syaoran and Kurogane discuss the discovery that the people who killed Kurogane’s mother and attacked Syaoran’s country are from the same dimension.  This adds a new reason to keep dimension hopping. Sakura and Fai have been investigating and learned that the book that allowed Syaoran to see Kurogane’s memory is literally called, ‘the […]

As is tradition at our house, we open our Cannonball books on Christmas Eve. tiny_bookbot, LouBear was so excited to get the two Shannon Hale graphic novels! And the bookmark magnets are beautiful. HUGE thanks from me to ellesfena for American Royals, Exile from Eden, and the adorable book magnet. Love them and can’t wait to start reading. We are so grateful to be a part of such a lovely community. Happy holidays to all!

Louisa May Alcott's Christmas Treasury by Louisa May Alcott

December 24, 2019 by Leedock Leave a Comment

I love Christmas. As my kid says, there are more holiday songs on my “Holly Jolly” play list than there are days in the year. I bake an insane number of cookies and start watching Christmas movies in November. Yep, I am one of those people and I’m not sorry about it. When I was around 9, I got a paperback anthology of Christmas stories. To keep myself occupied until everyone else woke up on Christmas morning (I was the only kid in the house at the […]
