CBR Bingo- BINGO! Throwback Thursday

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

So I have been playing Bingo all wrong. I’ve been aiming, and have a plan for, a blackout but I haven’t been paying attention to actually achieving 5 in a row traditional Bingos until now! I haven’t read Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs since before I joined Cannonball Read but I read it a few times in high school and college so it seemed like a good choice for Throwback Thursday. Since I’ve read Burroughs’s memoir numerous times I opted for the audiobook version for […]

CBR Bingo: Home, Something, Home

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

The stars at night – are big and bright Deep in the heart of Texas. The prairie sky – is wide and high Deep in the heart of Texas. I have lived in North Texas my whole life, excluding my Freshman year of college where I went all the way to Oklahoma, but I traveled a little farther south to Austin with Pamela Ribbon’s Why Girls are Weird because I’ve already read all the books about JFK’s assassination and was at a loss for what to read for […]

CBR Bingo: Listicles

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Leah on the Off Beat is on numerous listicles for 2018 but for CBR Bingo purposes it is located on BookBub’s 20 of the Biggest Teen Books for Adults coming in Spring 2018. Albertalli revisits the Creekwood social circle of Simon Spier with the narration falling into the less capable hands of  his friend Leah Burke. Leah is an overweight, Harry Potter obsessed drummer who has always known she was bisexual but failed to come out to her best friend Simon even after he had a dramatic outing […]

Me and the littles review The Worst Witch

September 9, 2018 by llp 1 Comment

We have family in England that sometimes send the children British books that I hadn’t really known very much about; in the last few years they sent us The Worst Witch, but it hadn’t really caught the kids attention. I knew that it had been a television series and that there were several books, but wasn’t super familiar with the series as well. It seemed like a good candidate for us to review together, after offering to read it aloud to my littles. I quite […]

Annihilation: Consistently CREEPY

September 9, 2018 by llp Leave a Comment

While I missed Annihilation in theatres, I was very pleased to see it show up on Netflix. I know there were some mixed reviews, but it certainly got people talking and I was thrilled to see a cast made up almost entirely of women (TESSA THOMPSON) in a real science fiction movie to boot. I had not read the book prior to seeing the movie and had tried to avoid reviews with spoilers. I found the movie deeply unsettling – moody and dark with interesting […]

This Book Could Have Been Any Number of Bingo Squares (CBR10Bingo)

September 9, 2018 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I have an enormous backlog. My Goodreads account tells me as of today, I have 649 books on my Want to Read shelf. I still have 62 that I added on the day I joined, January 6, 2012 during my first year participating in Cannonball Read 4. What better book to knock off the Backlog square than something I was introduced to in my first week of Cannonball Read and has been languishing for more than six years on Mount TBR (and has a movie […]
