The author is inadvertently his own villain

September 22, 2018 by lowercasesee 2 Comments

This is another one that’s just kind of … there. The author fancies himself a standup comedian and the book was self-published, which should really tell you all you need to know. It’s not offensively bad (for the most part, there are some HILARIOUS stereotypes about women, let me tell you) it’s just blah. It’s a book that is meant to combine magic and technology and it just kind of flops there and looks dead. Here’s an anecdote that pretty well describes the book and […]

Both the Book and the Film Were Good (CBR10 BINGO)

September 21, 2018 by ASKReviews 2 Comments

CBR 10 BINGO Square: The book was better? Best for: Young adults. In a nutshell: Lara Jean writes letters to boys as a way to get over them. Somehow, they get sent. Yikes Worth quoting: “It’s funny how much of childhood is abut proximity. Like, who your best friend is is directly correlated to how close your houses are; who you sit next to in music is all about how close your names are in the alphabet. Such a game of chance.” Why I chose […]

More Witchy Irish Stereotypes then you can shake a stick at (Bingo #3)

September 21, 2018 by melanir Leave a Comment

Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, MD and currently lives up in the northwestern part of the state. And so this book, Dark Witch, fills the Home Something Home slot on my bingo card. I am not impressed. I mean, kissing books are not my favorite genre and unfortunately this one follows the plot beats with drumming regularity. I think if you’re fond of a particular genre, then this type of drumming to the story beats will appeal to you. I know that I […]

In the immortal words of Doug Judy, “So why don’t you just chill and eat some sexy-ass lobster?”**

Craig Robinson, truly a “man for all seasons,” continues to prove that he’s a national treasure with his debut children’s book, Jake the Fake. Did you love Craig on The Office?   Or in his recurring role as Doug Judy, the Pontiac Bandit, on Brooklyn 99? How about his annoying, and yet charming, commercials for Dodge? [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsmyyHhGjHw&w=560&h=315] Did you ever hear him sing Radiohead’s Creep (with an all-Office backup band. Creed!)? [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogwvMJDlBtA&w=560&h=315] And he was even great on Ghosted, which was really quite […]

I wanted to laugh more!

September 21, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

cbr10bingo… Alabama Pink I listened to this book, which I think is the optimal way to read it.  It wasn’t narrated by Chelsea, but the narrator was good.  I read this for cbr10bingo, and it was my Alabama Pink choice.  I remember when CBR first started, and I thought “there’s no way I can read that many books”, and now I’m on my fourth CBR and kicking ass.  I love it.  Bingo is a new and exciting twist this year that’s just making me want […]

#CBR10Bingo: This is the end – Magic Triumphs

September 21, 2018 by Malin 2 Comments

#CBR10Bingo: This is the end This is the tenth and final book in a long running series. As such, there may be spoilers for the contents of at least previous books, as well as mild spoilers for the plot of this one. More importantly, it is NOT the place to start. The proper place to begin is Magic Bites. The book is a bit rough, but stick with it, this series is among the best paranormal fantasy out there. I’ve spent more than eleven hours on a […]
