CBR10 Bingo: Alabama Pink and a third Bingo

October 18, 2018 by Caitlin_D 5 Comments

Lollygagger recently reviewed a different book, Wicked, for the same Bingo Square- Alabama Pink- and came away with the realization that they would probably not have belonged in the same book club. I agree; Enchantment was the only book that interested me from the list of books Alabama Pink was able to read and review before her untimely death (I have yet to muster the motivation for our upcoming Book Club selection) and it was severely disappointing. I do wonder though, is it possible to glean a complete […]

The trippiest trip you’ll ever take

October 17, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

Oh dear.  So that happened.  I’m From the Sun: The Gustafer Yellowgold Story was a free Audible Original that I thought looked interesting.  And it certainly was that. This whole thing is a giant acid trip, complete with music.  I actually originally thought this was a story based on a song from some artist I’d never heard of.  But no. No, this was definitely not what I was expecting.   So, as the title suggests, our tale takes place on the Sun.  There is a […]

The princess ends up much better off at the end

October 17, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

I’d heard of this in a few places, so I was glad to get the chance to actually read it.  This children’s book is very cute with a bit of a twist at the end. We start off with a princess getting to marry a prince.  They both have very fancy clothes and are very proper. Then, a dragon comes and burns the princess’s castle down and takes the prince with him.  All of the princess’s belongings burned, and the only thing she can find […]

The picture book banned for the most ridiculous reason

October 17, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

I chose this for my “Fahrenheit 451” book purely because of why it was banned.  It was not banned for content like most books. No, the Texas Board of Education banned the colorful storybook due to lack of research.  There’s another Bill Martin, you see, without the Jr., who wrote a book geared toward adults titled Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation.  Someone on the board decided that Ethical Marxism may not be the best book to be molding young Texan minds, and so […]

New adventures in an old favorite

October 17, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies by far.  And with the 30th anniversary of the movie happening a few years ago, there were a lot of celebratory books and figures and things that came out.  For three years on Free Comic Book Day, there was a short Labyrinth story included in the mix, and those eventually got published as a separate book.  The stories and illustrations are by Corey Godbey, who happened to be at New York Comic Con this year, so I was […]

#CBR10Bingo: AlabamaPink – The Dud Avocado (First bingo!)

October 16, 2018 by Malin 2 Comments

#CBR10Bingo: AlabamaPink Sally Jay Gorce is a young woman of independent means, thanks to the benevolence of a rich uncle. He’s given her enough money to live comfortably abroad for two whole years, no strings attached, as long as she comes back and tells him about her adventures at the end of the two years. Not needing to hold down a job or really do anything at all for the money, means Sally Jay spends her time flitting about Paris, taking a lover, drinking and […]
