This book will make you hungry (Third bingo!)

October 24, 2018 by Malin 1 Comment

#CBR10Bingo: Delicious From Goodreads: In downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lou works tirelessly to build her beloved yet struggling French restaurant, Luella’s, into a success. She cheerfully balances her demanding business and even more demanding fiancé…until the morning she discovers him in the buff—with an intern. Witty yet gruff British transplant Al is keeping himself employed and entertained by writing scathing reviews of local restaurants in the Milwaukee newspaper under a pseudonym. When an anonymous tip sends him to Luella’s, little does he know he’s arrived on […]

I LOL’d (CBR10 BINGO)

CBR 10 BINGO Square: Underrepresented (Also, that’s my first BINGO! I’ve read 15 books for BINGO but managed to space them out across all the rows.) Best for: People who like personal essays and also Ms. Robinson’s style of humor (e.g., loads of hashtags) In a nutshell: In the follow-up to her first collection of essays, Ms. Robinson shares more of the serious aspects of her personal life (including her financial challenges, her experience with interracial relationships, and the failures of feminism) while also telling […]

The 2nd Book in a Row for Me That Just Feels Overwhelmingly Lonely

October 24, 2018 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

This is a tough one… the characterization of the protagonist in this novel is absolutely fascinating, yet I don’t know that the book as a whole worked for me. Such a specific tone was slowly developed throughout the first 2/3 of the story, easing along gentle to the inevitable conclusion, which then came about so quickly that I felt like there had to be more. Eileen is named after it’s protagonist, Eileen, as she recounts the story of how she disappeared from her small hometown […]

Whoah, this girl is messed up – BINGO

October 23, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

cbr10bingo… Cover Art THIS IS MY FIRST BINGO!  (I plan on having more, but we’ll see)  I chose this book for “cover art”, because it’s obviously a cool / disturbing cover. We start out the story with a British detective (or inspector, or whatever rank he was at the time) talking to a family about how the pedophile who sexually abused their six year old daughter won’t be brought to justice.  It’s devastating to both the family and the detective, because he’s a bad dude […]

I wish I liked the characters more

October 23, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

cbr10bingo… Underrepresented I really wish I liked the main character more.  I picked this audiobook (in CD form) up from the library on a whim.  The cover looked cool, and the story sounded interesting.  I’m always up for a murder mystery with a dash of hidden identities. The main character is Polly / Pauline.  She starts out by abandoning her daughter and husband on their beach vacation and driving to Delaware.  I don’t know if this was the point, but I didn’t like her right […]

Not My Wheelhouse … BINGO!

October 22, 2018 by ElCicco 10 Comments

#cbr10bingo Not My Wheelhouse This book was a gift from Malin during last year’s CBR book exchange. I had mentioned that I don’t read much in the Romance genre but would be interested in trying, and she sent The Hating Game, a favorite among Cannonballers.  *Note: the first square that I filled on my bingo card was with a book from Malin, and the first review I wrote for CBR10 was for a book from Malin. Next bingo cards needs a square called “Malin Recommends”! […]
