Love the guy, hated the book.

November 1, 2018 by Mrs Smith Reads Leave a Comment

OK, I’ll just say up front that if I had read Between the Bridge and the River when it came out in 2006, I’m pretty sure I would have loved it and written a rave review. Unfortunately reading it in 2018, I just didn’t have that reaction. I’ve always liked Craig Ferguson, and his sense of humour. He was my favourite part of “The Drew Carey Show,” and his most recent comedy special on Netflix, “Tickle Fight” made me laugh out loud. He’s a good guy, who’s been […]

When that ticking clock does more than keep you up at night….

It seems appropriate that I finished my cbr10bingo for #The Book Was Better? on Halloween as it was a scary(ish) book called The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs. I think I read this as a kid about thirty years ago. This is probably why I have no real memory of it. Therefore, I was reading it for the first time. I had hoped to read it as the movie just came out. And while I am not a Jack Black fan, […]

You know your love keeps on lifting me, lifting me higher and higher

CBR10Bingo: Fahrenheit 451 (BINGO!) When I named Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon as one of my three desert island books earlier this year, I realized two things: (1) I’ve only read it once, and that was about 15 years ago, and (2) I haven’t even owned a copy for half that time, having lost track of my original through several big moves (I blame my ex). I bought a fresh copy this spring, and when CBR10Bingo rolled around, I had this book in mind for […]

CBR Bingo (7) Dream Vacation

November 1, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

My husband is Brazilian; he was born in Sao Paulo but moved to Texas when he was a pre-schooler and became a US citizen years before we got married. I’ve always found it ironic that my soul mate was born thousands of miles away from me but the houses we grew up in are walking distance from one another. Despite our long relationship and the extensive family he still has living down there I’ve never been. There are a few reasons for this: it is […]

CBR Bingo (5 and 6) Book Club/ Dear Lord I Have Failed!

November 1, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I’ve never written a review for a book I didn’t finish but Between the Bridge and the River is an integral part of Cannonball Bingo and I still managed to gather together some thoughts that I hope to contribute to this weekend’s Book Club. However I cannot justifiably add it to my end of year book count so hopefully saying I am reviewing “0” books with this review keeps it from raising my total. I knew Between the Bridge and the River was not going to be the book for me […]

Gearing up for the grand sex criminals finale. #CBRBingo

October 31, 2018 by narfna 2 Comments

I liked this a lot better than the last one, which made me feel like the series was starting to become aimless and no fun. It’s still not as purely fun here as it was in the first two volumes, but a lot of things were course corrected, and the last couple of pages were great. Suzie and Jon are both not doing so well post-breakup. Suzie is with the world’s most ‘meh’ man, and Jon is in an open relationship with a lovely woman […]
