For the night is dark, and full of terrors

Through the Woods by Emily Carroll

October 21, 2021 by Malin 1 Comment

4.5 stars CBR13 Bingo: Shelfie In five creepy stories ranging from the historical to more recent times, writer and artist Emily Carroll gives us her take on proper spine-tingling fairy tales. Accompanied by her absolutely beautiful art, the tales are all the more chilling because of the illustrations. This absolutely qualifies as a graphic novel, or probably more accurately a graphic short story (or fairy tale) anthology. Some of the stories are short, some are longer, all managed to truly unnerve me, while also entertaining […]

This is the End of BINGO!

December 1, 2018 by Emmalita 6 Comments

We have reached the last pages of the last chapter of CBR10 Bingo. We still have a very exciting epilogue where we announce who wins which prizes in the Bingo raffle drawing. The drawing will most likely happen tomorrow evening, so please check my numbers below and let me know if I missed a review or a bingo.

I too did not like this. #CBRBingo #Blackout!?

Well I tell you what, this book. It was just unpleasant. I would not have picked this up if it weren’t for bingo, and none of the other choices looked at all appealing. I thought, well if you pick that one at least you won’t  be bored! And that was true. But my version of not being bored mostly consisted of me yelling at my audiobook about how much I disliked almost everything that was going on. Maybe she is a different author now but […]

This book is a lot. #CBRBingo

I was skeptical going in to this. If you’re following my reviews, you probably know that lit fic and I don’t always get along. And it was a bit dense, especially at first. I knew going in this was made up of a series of interlocking stories, which was probably another  reason I was wary. It’s actually cooler than that, though. The book is structured in a sort of mirror. The first story is set in the 18th century and is told as a diary, […]

A new chapter for a brilliant piece of crime journalism

November 30, 2018 by KimMiE" Leave a Comment

CBR 10 Bingo: So Shiny! Bingo #3! On April 24, 2018, Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested and charged with eight counts of first-degree murder by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Santa Barbara County would soon follow with four additional murder charges. The man widely known as the Golden State Killer, thought to be responsible for at least 13 murders and over 50 rapes spanning the 1970s and 80s, had finally been caught. No doubt the families of the victims felt some degree of comfort and […]
