Finally reading a book I was given for book exchange!

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear 1 Comment

So, as a running theme, this was not what I thought it was going to be.  I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t quite this.   There are three kinds of people in this world.  (Hey, that’s kind of familiar…) We have normal people, full vampires, and Colds, or people who have been bitten by a vampire but have not yet turned.  In order to become a vampire, one must be infected with the vampirism by a bite and then drink human […]

The start of a very weird series

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

So I was going along, listening to the book, and it was all fine, and then all of a sudden, I came to a realization.  “Wait a minute, this is JESUS!” Yes, this all seems to boil down to a second coming of Christ (or Christ-like character.) (Or something to do with Mormons. I’m not sure.)   This is an alternate history of Frontier era of America.  From what I quickly read of the introduction before I started, I knew there would be some differences, […]

A story I was meaning to read anyway

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

So, the class I was subbing for was reading I am Malala (the Young Readers Edition) and as I was reading a good portion of it anyway, I decided to read the whole thing!  Malala Yousfzai is the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. She spoke up to change the fate of children’s education, especially for girls in her native Pakistan.   So my journey through this started with Chapter 14 – 16, then 1-8, 17-19, 9-13, then the rest of the book.  But […]

Awesome, but not my favorite Drew Hayes

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

And so we embark on another journey into the strange world that is Drew Hayes’ imagination.  How this guy can come up with so many different, yet complete universes boggles the mind. This one is similar, on paper at least, to his Super Powereds universe.  But it’s very different in some very key ways.   Like in Super Powereds, we have people with abilities.  These people are called metahumans, or metas. Metas can be formed in different ways.  They can gain powers during an accident […]

I am Groot

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

Okay, so I am shamelessly reading and reviewing this before giving it as a gift.  (I’m giving it to a 32-year-old man. Who cosplayed as Groot for ComicCon one year.  So only the best for my friends!) (Update – he loved it!)   Our premise is that Baby Groot is trying to go to bed, but Rocket is having none of that nonsense.  There are adventures to be had! The main story is told as a normal bedtime story with rhymes and all, but Rocket […]

“The universe is under no obligation to make sense to you.”

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear 1 Comment

So, this is a book of of words.  And science. It is actually full of science words.  And I understood most some of them!   This is supposed to be a summary of astrophysics.  A Sparknotes, if you will. A little taste to see if it’s to your liking, and if it is, you can pursue more on your own time.     First we start out with a very tiny condensed ball of all of the stuff ever.  Then it expands. Our man Neil […]
