The play’s the thing

CBR10Bingo: This Old Thing (The Tempest) and Birthday (Hag-Seed) I’m a big fan of Margaret Atwood’s novels. I haven’t read everything she’s written, but I have a shelf full of her books and have loved all but one (sorry, The Heart Goes Last). I always watch for her new releases, and she’s one of the rare exceptions I’ll make to buy hardcover. When Hag-Seed came out a few years ago, I was all excited and ready to buy, until I looked at the cover blurb […]

Yes, she can be a little “extra.” But the food is delicious.

I think at this point, most of humanity is familiar with Chrissy Teigen. I follow her on Twitter and Instagram. I enjoy her comment round-ups on Comments by Celebrities. I love her obsession with Walter(Owen’s Grandp), who may or may not be real. Her kids are adorable and her mothering is relatable. Her husband seems cool and pretty normal for a massive celebrity. And like a lot of others, SOMETIMES I CANNOT GET THE RIDICULOUS HEADBAND OF THE DAY SONG OUT OF MY HEAD. Sure, […]

This was heart wrenching

September 6, 2018 by Dome'Loki 2 Comments

I have finally reached the end of “The Hunger Games” trilogy.  The Hunger Games and Catching Fire were revelatory in the richness of the stories compared to the movies and Mockingjay was no exception.  The movie adaptation of Mockingjay left so little impression that I had forgotten it was split into two movies.  Having read the entire series I find myself a little surprised that it was ever adapted for the screen.  Much of the books are dark and depressing as we watch Katniss deal with PTSD and in the final volume […]

When I was a baby I urinated into my own mouth

September 6, 2018 by tillie Leave a Comment

I first witnessed the glory that is James Acaster on an episode of Would I Lie to You where he recounted the, now infamous, cabbage tale. I watched that episode twice. Then I googled the man and watched pretty much everything on YouTube, including obscure clips from before anyone knew who he was. What I’m trying to say is that I was very much the target audience for this book and my review is in no way objective, but based purely on the fact that […]

I didn’t love this, but its one million percent worth the purchase simply to hear HJB make up potential titles for the porn he accidentally appeared in.

You probably know H Jon Benjamin from his voice. He voices some of my favorite animated characters and some of my favorite cinematic cans of vegetables. He’s Archer: He’s Ben, the disinterested and lazy son of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. He’s also Mitch, the philosophical can of mixed vegetables from the Wet Hot American Summer stuff. (And yes, I know he’s also Bob Belcher, but I have yet to watch Bob’s Burgers. Please don’t hurt me.) His voice is a god damned delight, and his […]

My Cult Leader Is a Toddler On Cold Medicine. And Yours’?

Erika Carter, Lucky You [#CBR10Bingo: Listicle] The premise itself was intriguing—three female work acquaintances all searching for direction each end up at an off-grid location under the direction of a burgeoning leader–and I added it to my ‘To Read’ list after seeing it pop up on recommended reads from NPR, the Book of the Month Club and Vulture’s website when I needed reading inspiration. So, this book…I read it over the course of one night and generally, that is shorthand for “I had to rush […]
