Reading is Fundamental; Reading the Right Words is Power-full

January 31, 2018 by sistercoyote Leave a Comment

This was a CBR Book Exchange gift from a couple of years ago; I thought I found it from a review on here but apparently not! I’m not quite sure what to make of this book, which isn’t to say I disliked it.

I do love nothing in this world so well as you. Is not that strange?

From Goodreads, because I’m lazy, and it sums up the book nicely: Six teenagers’ lives intertwine during one thrilling summer full of romantic misunderstandings and dangerous deals in this sparkling retelling of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. After she is kicked out of boarding-school, seventeen-year-old Beatrice goes to her uncle’s estate in Long Island. But Hey Nonny Nonny is more than just a rundown old mansion. Beatrice’s cousin, Hero, runs a struggling speakeasy out of the basement – one that might not survive the summer.  Along […]

The fire’s starting to die out a bit now

January 29, 2018 by Malin 3 Comments

3.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is the third and final book in the trilogy, and will without a doubt contain spoilers for the earlier books in the series. Don’t read this review if you want to remain unspoiled and aren’t caught up with the previous two books. If you want to start at the beginning, book 1 (by far the best book in the series) is A Promise of Fire. Cat and her warlord husband Griffin have defeated the rulers of tyrannical Tarva and united two thirds […]

“It’s Drivin’ Me Mad, It’s Makin’ Me Crazy”

January 29, 2018 by Junebug Leave a Comment

The Lost City of Z is both the tale of Percy Fawcett’s multiple expeditions to find the mythological City of Z (El Dorado) and David Grann’s, “expedition” to discover, once and for all, what happened to Percy Fawcett? What did happen to Percy Fawcett? At times it plays out like an inception-style story of the author searching for previous expeditions that were searching for the Fawcett expedition. There is plenty of mystery and intrigue in the book. Percy Fawcett comes across as a fascinating […]

Impossible, Improbable, the Truth

January 29, 2018 by sistercoyote Leave a Comment

It would be heartening to believe that the misalliance between myth and medicine is at an end and that today murders are examined only through the prism of the scientific method, but this is a comfort we may not have. – Kindle Edition location 2253 It took me a while to finish this one, and in the end it wasn’t really the book I wanted, alas.

This was just bad

January 29, 2018 by Mikki Blu 2 Comments

This book has to be one of the worst I’ve read in a long time – I almost didn’t want to review it, but it’s one of those that you can hate review so easily I couldn’t resist. The premise of this book sounded promising: Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds–especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It’s the perfect location for Lester Olsen’s lucrative business. […]
