CBR Diversions – Caption This…

August 21, 2020 by Emmalita 17 Comments

Jeverett15’s review of The Running Man reminded me that Richard Dawson used to be a big part of my after school TV watching – Hogan’s Heroes followed by Family Feud. Thinking about Richard Dawson the game show host made me think about games, which made me think about CBR Diversions which led me to the ever popular game on Twitter, Caption This. It’s perfect for snark and silliness. We never take a break from books around here, but sometimes we have fun with them. For […]

CBR Diversions – Can You Recommend a Book?

July 10, 2020 by Emmalita 19 Comments

Now that the CBR12 Book Bingo Reading Challenge has begun, the hunt is on for books to fill squares. Some squares, like The Roaring 20’s and Money, are ripe for recommendations. All book recommendations are welcome, because what works for you for White Whale might be someone else’s Shelfie. In the kick-off post, vel veeter got us started with some color in the title recommendations: Often in book challenges, they use colors….which I find difficult to find. But I did some research: The Yellow House […]

CBR Diversions – Dream Casting

June 26, 2020 by teresaelectro 20 Comments

As a lover of all things pop culture, I love to read and watch book adaptations on the big and small screen. I first saw HBO’s True Blood series before absolutely devouring the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books. Same for The Golden Compass, which was panned by critics, but led to me reading the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. The screen versions captivated me and I simply had to know the literary origins of the characters. When I read a particularly engaging novel, […]

CBR Diversions – 250 Words is 240 Too Many

June 12, 2020 by Emmalita 20 Comments

We all have those books that are so uninspiring that we can’t find 250 words to say about them – not even if we have the back of book blurb to add. We didn’t love them, but we also didn’t hate them. They were books we read and now we have nothing to say.

CBR Diversions – Follow Friday Author Edition

May 29, 2020 by teresaelectro 18 Comments

I can’t be the only one spending more time online to entertain myself. Besides reading books and binge-watching, have you been spending a huge chunk of time scrolling on social? As a consequence, I have entered every book giveaway I have seen even though I do not have space for new books in my house. I tell myself that I’m making an exception for FREE books. With the current social distancing climate, you may have noticed book publishers have been hosting more virtual events than […]

CBR Diversions – Please Introduce Us To…

May 13, 2020 by Emmalita 49 Comments

2020 has been a weird year, and we are still in the first half. For a lot of us, the pandemic has meant spending a lot less time with other people. Some of us are working from home, some of us have lost our jobs, and even for those of us still going in to work, we aren’t socializing in person much. So who or what is getting you through this time? Do you have a feline supervisor who likes to hang out on your […]
