Yep, just cats and games. CBRBINGO – Play

Cat + Gamer, Vol. 1 by Wataru Nadatani

Cat + Gamer, Vol. 2 by Wataru Nadatani

Cat + Gamer, Vol. 3 by Wataru Nadatani

September 27, 2025 by narfna 6 Comments

Firstly, big thanks to vega-table for the heads up that this even exists! I was having trouble finding a book that would work for this BINGO square, and this was just so perfect, because it’s short and easy to read, and it’s about cats. My library system actually has quite a bit of manga in it’s catalog, and that’s how I read most of the manga I have read. Luckily they had this one, too, and it was free! God bless libraries and librarians. Protect […]

Discover the Moonlight Zoo

The Midnight Zoo by Maudie Powell-Tuck

August 20, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Author Maudie Powell-Tuck starts in the middle of the story in The Midnight Zoo where we learn Eva has lost her cat Luna. Eva has looked all over and taken all sorts of actions to find them. Of course, as bedtime comes around, and Luna is not found, Eva is obviously distressed. Then, in what you can believe is a real event, or a dream, Eva finds herself at the titled zoo, where the animals help her look for said cat. Overall, things are whimsical, […]

Cats Being Cats

Cat + Gamer vol. 4 by Wataru Nadatani

August 20, 2025 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo6  : Play This one is kind of literal. Cat + Gamer is a manga about a gamer geek girl who gets a cat. Riko (human) describes her cat in gamer terms, and when she gets a new kitty to keep Musubi (kitty1) company, she frames it as a game quest. We get to see Riko playing her games a bit, but also Soboro (kitty 2) and Musubi learning to play with each other. I don’t even think I missed too much by jumping in […]

“Bad Llama. Level 3. It’s a llama, but it’s bad. If he were human, he’d be covered in prison tattoos and would be hanging out in front of the Circle K hitting on 14-year-old girls.”

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

CBR17 Bingo: Rec’d (I honestly don’t know how many people have raved about this book, on CBR, other review sites on the internet, as well as in my IRL book club) By now, most people who are even vaguely interested in this series probably know what it’s about, but I’ll try to give a brief summary. Carl is wandering around, half-dressed in the snow, looking for his ex-girlfriend’s prize-winning Persian cat, when Earth is suddenly attacked by aliens. All the buildings collapse in an instant […]

“Love is like a good cup of coffee: strong, warm, and comforting”

Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe by C.B. Lee

July 26, 2025 by bjornsnipe Leave a Comment

When Brenda’s internet quits on her just as an important scholarship deadline approaches (UCLA here we come! *fingers crossed*), her only recourse is the library. When that fails, she’s lucky enough to stumble into a local coffeeshop, replete with both wifi and Kat. Brenda falls for cool, confident, attractive Kat, who seems to actually want to listen to Brenda’s 19-step plan to save the world through the power of science and scholastic volunteer work. Meanwhile, Kat thinks Brenda is everything she didn’t know she needed; […]

Talking Cats are Still Cats

The Olympian Affair by Jim Butcher

June 20, 2025 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

My introduction to Jum Butcher was The Aeronaut’s Windlass (Cinder Spires 1) published in 2015 (the publication date will matter in a minute). It’s a sort of steampunk/fantasy/speculative adventure; I really enjoyed the characters (including the talking cats), world, and general story. I checked out his main series, the Dresden Files, but got tired of that after a few volumes. I have limited tolerance for the kind of story where things just keep going from bad to worse, and often the personal drama is avoidable. […]
