Not at all the book I was expecting but that’s my fault (and a thing I have done before)

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian

June 21, 2021 by wicherwill 3 Comments

Pride continueth! What I thought this book was about and what it is about are two very different things! And not in a bad way, just in a “oh that’s not what I was expecting!” type of way. Kit reminds me of Katherine from The Witch of Blackbird Pond, so I though that Kit Webb was a female character, but since this has “Queer” in the cover I assumed that the other blonde one on the cover was also female and they were both either androgynous or dressing […]

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian

June 7, 2021 by Emmalita 7 Comments

A few weeks ago someone on twitter asked if anyone ever actually won those Goodreads giveaways, and yes, people do win Goodreads giveaways. I won a physical copy of Cat Sebastian’s The Queer Principles of Kit Webb. It arrived on my doorstep just as I had pulled out some color complimentary veggies. Look at me being a bookstagramer. I always know I’m going to like a Cat Sebastian book, but then I get surprised by how much it gets into my feelings. The Queer Principles […]

This was so cozy and comforting and lovely.

Two Rogues Make a Right (Seducing the Sedgwicks, #3) by Cat Sebastian

August 31, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

If you’re looking for a plot- or angst- or action-heavy romance, this won’t satisfy you, but if you’re looking for something slow and sweet, where two lifelong friends slowly come together while one nurses the other back to health, than this is your book. Martin and Will have been best friends since childhood. Will grew up slightly neglected in a rather bohemian household that was falling into ruin. Martin’s father was a first class asshole, who also turned out to be an abuser (see the […]

“You’ve already made tea? Is this what I get for successfully fondling you?”

Two Rogues Make a Right (Seducing the Sedgewicks 3) by Cat Sebastian

June 16, 2020 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Every time I read Cat Sebastian, I wonder why it is I haven’t devoured her entire back catalog? She’s a brilliant writer. Her stories make me feel like I’ve been snuggled on the world’s most comfortable couch. Two Rogues Make a Right is the third book in a series. You can read it as a stand alone. In the previous book, A Gentleman Never Keeps Score, Martin Easterbrook is an antagonist to Will Sedgwick’s brother. However, I didn’t remember much about that part of the plot (much […]

“Missing you is profoundly inconvenient, I’ll have you know. I have things to do and places to be, and all the while I’ll feel like I’ve mislaid a piece of my soul and I won’t get it back until I see you again. That can’t be normal.”

The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian

April 11, 2020 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I should have read this one much closer to the previous two in the series, The Soldier’s Scoundrel and The Lawrence Brown Affair because so many of our previous characters reappear here and are woven into the plot. As a reader you can tell that Sebastian was getting more comfortable in her writing, overall, this book is stronger than the previous two, even if Sebastian shortchanges the plot a smidge in the final third. I continue to really like how Cat Sebastian builds her stories: […]

“I don’t want to talk about dukes. Bollocks on every last one of them.”

A Delicate Deception (Regency Imposters, #3) by Cat Sebastian

April 2, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a bit rough, but charming in its roughness. It’s my favorite of Sebastian’s Regency Imposters books. At the beginning of the book especially when the lovers are in the “enemies” phase of “enemies to lovers,” the banter and the narration both are very biting and witty, but in a gentle, non-threatening way for my emotions. Amelia is our heroine, and I will admit it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize she was in both prior books in the series. She has […]
