“If you can see me, it’s because I’m letting you see me.”

The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian

July 23, 2022 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

I loved this book. I loved the very concept of The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes when it was announced, I loved wondering what the story could be. When we get to the end of The Queer Principles of Kit Webb it isn’t a cliffhanger, but there are a lot of loose ends which still need to be tied up – this is the book that does that tying, while unraveling and re-weaving a few threads of its own. So, what is this book? The […]

“In any event,” Percy went on, “what I had thought were principles were merely manners, and they’re utterly insufficient for my present circumstances.”

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb is a book unabashedly about the heart. There are so many famous quotes about the heart that remind me forcefully of this book. Perhaps the easiest is the heart wants what it wants. So much of the plot of The Queer Principles of Kit Webb is caught up in its leads doing what their hearts tell them is right, what they know to be true from somewhere deep within. We get our two heroes, the titular Kit Webb, a […]

Excellent sequel (not follow up) to the first book

The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian

CW from author: blood, main character who survived dangerous pregnancy and for whom any future pregnancy would be dangerous (note: there is no pregnancy in this book), past arrest and imprisonment, gun violence, non-graphic allusion to sexual assault, elderly parent with Alzheimer’s disease, postpartum depression I might be rounding up from 4.5 to 5, but I’m so happy with this book that we’re going to five star it. I think I’ve been a bit stingy with the 5s in favor of 4s, so there might […]

“He really was an idiot, but he was an idiot for Tommy Cabot, and maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.”

Tommy Cabot Was Here (The Cabots, #1) by Cat Sebastian

This was a very sweet second chance romance novella set in 1959. I don’t normally like second chance romances all that much, but in this case, Sebastian plays it perfectly. Our two main characters went to an all-boys school for almost their entire childhoods, and Everett was in love Tommy for most of it. But Tommy married a woman, moved away, and the two of them stopped speaking. Now in their thirties, Everett is a teacher at their old school, and Tommy has made the […]

“I used to think that revenge was about defending one’s honor, but it turns out that honor is just spite dressed up for Sunday.”

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb (#1) by Cat Sebastian

In one word: Cheeky I don’t read a lot of romance, but this rogue meets aristocrat was recommended by many in the Cannonball Read community, so I put it on my list for something fun and light for the new year. I had the lucky opportunity to escape the frigid midwest for the beach in mid-January and this book was an absolutely perfect beach read, fun and cheeky with equal parts swashbuckling mystery and eyebrow waggling sexy times. Kit is a coffee shop owner and […]
