Potter Adjacent

January 26, 2018 by melanir 2 Comments

The Iron Trial is the first book in series by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. I’m a fan of Holly Black, but I’ve kind of avoided everything by Cassandra Clare because I used to read Fandom Wank back in the day and she just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, this book was on sale a while back, and it looked interesting so I picked it up (also, I think Holly Black was listed first and I didn’t see Cassandra Clare’s name at […]

Teenagers and Demons, Oh My!

January 15, 2017 by Ale 6 Comments

I read this so my teenage sister-in-law would have someone to talk to about it, and….meh? There were some good things about it; there were even times when I laughed or had feelings for the characters, but that didn’t happen until around page 240…..Now, that doesn’t mean this book is bad. I’m just not the intended audience. It’s a YA, which I typically have issues with anyway, and its’ about hell-beasts, and demons, and teenagers with feels, and I’m a 30-year-old woman who doesn’t have […]

This Parabatai Thing Got Me Feeling Some Kind of Way

March 17, 2016 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

Listen… Listen… Okay, just listen… I’m weak. I should know not to get myself into this cheesy nonsense, but good grief I do every time. Let’s follow the path that led me down this rabbit hole: It all started in high school when my friends told me to read The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, and boy howdy I really enjoyed them! Well, I never got around to reading the last two, but I really liked them. Then that HORRIBLE City of Bones movie came […]

I’m Weak, Okay? I’m WEAK.

April 2, 2014 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

I told myself I was done with The Mortal Instruments books after the third one…. but then my friends and I were discussing how corny the movie was, and some things about the next few books were mentioned and well, my curiosity got the better of me (I’m weak, okay?). Considering how I already had the whole series up to this point already acquired on my reading device, I saw no problem in just taking a gander at what happened next to these characters I’ve already spent […]
