Tricks? Nope! Only Treats Here!

Goblin Moon by Jacqueline Rogers

Witch's Cat: Apply Within by Joy H. Davidson

The Ghosts Go Marching by Claudia H Boldt

Little Poet Edgar Allan Poe: Nevermore! by Kate Coombs

October 15, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Halloween is the most awesome holiday. I am known for going overboard for a costume (two and a half hours for hair and makeup anyone?) and scarfing down candy. But I also like the fun books that come out of it. Since this year, things are a little different and if you are not going to be able to (or do not want to) go on a traditional trick-or-treating night, I suggest finding these books and starting a reading treat night. Goblin Moon by Jacqueline […]

To Grandmother’s Garden We Go

Grandma's Gardens by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton

August 14, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not either a fan or not fan of Hillary Rodham Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton. However, we had a copy of a book at work that had this grandmotherly looking lady on the cover that was bright, oversized and had garden in the title.  I am not a gardener, but this year I became a “plant mom” for the second time (my first was years ago and a Venus fly trap. It did not go well. Let’s say, do not accidently shut […]

A Book Personality

Little Blue House Beside the Sea by Jo Ellen Bogart

Play Outside by Laurent Moreau

February 20, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Picture books are a great way to sit and read a good book, but you do not have to invest a large amount of time into them. Besides, they can help you learn about people’s personalities. These two books are great “personality finders.” One is a modern story, but has a soft, old-school, classic feel; while the other is more modern. Knowing the audience that will enjoy these can help you find a novel for them. Yet, there is nothing wrong with a good picture […]

A review for the birds!

Birds by Carme Lemniscates

May 1, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Birds is a mellow story about the differences of birds in very basic text and format. You do not learn about the scientific details of birds (such as wing spans, food preferences, even the color differences of male and female) but simple-facts such as some birds are loud and some quiet or some birds build nests and others live in bird houses (or as the text said, “Prefer a roof over their heads”).  This is because the text is poetic and flows while taking a […]
