Why have just one epilogue when you can have four sweet, silly, and sexy vignettes instead?

“Believe you’d make it back to Akielos? Yes. I did. You were a force of nature. It was infuriating to fight you. Frightening to have you on my side.’ ‘Frightening?’ ‘You didn’t know how afraid I was of you?’ ‘Of me? Or of yourself?’ ‘Of what was happening between us.” ― C.S. Pacat, The Summer Palace This is a collection of short stories that took place during and immediately after the conclusion of the Captive Prince trilogy. Green but for a Season (Captive Prince Short […]

Just some rambling thoughts about a book I love.

Prince's Gambit (Captive Prince, #2) by C.S. Pacat

December 30, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

I re-read this whole trilogy in October, but I only ended up writing a review for #2. Oh, well. I’m not going to be able to write a real review of this. It would just come out garbled with enthusiasm. Instead, I’m going to do a real spoilery bullet point thing and see what comes out. Absolutely do not read any further unless you’ve already read all three books. *If Laurent didn’t already know that Damen was Damianos, he would know by the end of […]

That time I accidentally read an M/M erotic fantasy…

July 8, 2018 by Aquillia 4 Comments

This is the story of how I read something wildly out of my comfort zone and learned from the experience. My reading goals for this year have been to a) read more female fantasy writers and b) don’t buy books but use the library (part of an ongoing frugality goal). I have been pretty successful in both–I don’t think I’ve read a book by a single non-academic male author (I don’t include academic books in my write-ups), and I have only purchased one book this […]

Apparently Cathartic Fighting Gets Me Hype

May 16, 2016 by Lisa Bee 2 Comments

After finishing the second book in the Captive Prince series, I scoot right along to dive into this one, rather than taking a break such as I had between the first and second books. And I definitely think that that was a good decision on my part, as I could basically just keep the action going and not forget any plot-points, characters, or intricacies, as there are many within these last two books. I must say that I ended up liking this trilogy a lot […]

Some Fanart of the Two Princes in this Series Just Stumbled Upon my Tumblr Dash Today: How Fitting

May 5, 2016 by Lisa Bee 6 Comments

After reading the first book of the Captive Prince series, I was not exactly sold on it, and considered just stopping there. But after a little commenting back and forth with Narfna (aaayooo!) who had indeed read the rest of the series, I was convinced to keep going. And you know what, it has definitely improved and peaked more of my interest. There are still some things that I’m a little unsure of or uneasy about, but I am beginning to see a bigger picture […]

This series is book crack.

April 19, 2016 by narfna Leave a Comment

“Hello, lover.” Read back to back to back with the other two books, Kings Rising is a great series ender. All three books together create a massively compelling read. This is not a perfect book—there are actually some pretty big flaws up in here—but at least in terms of the emotional satisfaction possible to get from the story, I think Pacat really nails it here. This trilogy consumed my life for the three to four day period I read it in. I know that time frame would have been shorter […]
