How to Steal a Galaxy by Beth Revis

Last Chance to Save the World by Beth Revis

June 13, 2025 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

I was having a bit of a reading slump – nothing sounded good, and I returned several books to the library unread, which is a bit out of character for me. I had figured, though, that since I had such a fun time with Full Speed to a Crash Landing by Beth Revis last month that her brand of space heists in novella format might be what I needed to jumpstart my oomph. Then we got word that Bothari43 had passed, and I knew that […]

An Excellent Heist

A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal

June 18, 2024 by finnyfinfinn 1 Comment

An Arthurian heist novel featuring a tea shop by day and a blood bar by night? I’m in, I’m hooked, let’s gooooo! Arthie Casimir owns Spindrift, the aforementioned tea shop, collecting secrets from the aristocracy while serving tea while also providing a safe haven for vampires and her ragtag band of orphans. She is infamous for literally pulling her pistol from a stone. Jin Casimir is her adopted brother and right hand man. All is going well for the dynamic duo until Spindrift is threatened […]

Pedal-to-the-Metal

Blacktop Wasteland by S. A. Cosby

December 30, 2022 by LittlePlat 2 Comments

Well, this is a perfect book to review after Blood Sweat and Chrome? Going by the blurb of Blacktop Wasteland, I had been expecting a crime novel. But this is not really the case. What I got instead was a novel that was one part noir and many many parts most intense car changes I have ever seen committed to the written word. Now I may have made some grammatical clunkers there trying to convey the kind of feel you get from Blacktop Wasteland, but […]

Duck Heist!!!! #CBRBINGO – Bird

Flying Solo by Linda Holmes

November 3, 2022 by narfna 1 Comment

This is a silly, inconsequential—one might almost say *cozy*—book that is largely about the retrieval of a wooden duck, and I liked it very much. I really love Linda Holmes. I’m in for her whole thing, after this book. I was hoping Evvie Drake Starts Over wouldn’t be a fluke, and it wasn’t. While I didn’t like Flying Solo as much as I loved Evvie Drake, this was a really good time. You don’t often get stories from the POV of a woman who isn’t […]

“It is difficult, after the passage of more than a century, to understand the extent to which the train robbery of 1855 shocked the sensibilities of Victorian England.” #CBRBingo – Money!

The Great Train Robbery by Michael Crichton

September 8, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

I would love to see the movie version of this, which Crichton also wrote and directed. Sean Connery as Edward Pierce, the mastermind behind the robbery that threw Victorian England for a loop. He really was a smart guy. It’s obvious Crichton did his research about the period (apparently he became obsessed with the Victorian criminal underworld). The book is chock full of criminal slang. You catch the meaning eventually, and it certainly lends an atmosphere. This was a bit hard to get into at […]

Any Old Diamonds (Lilywhite Boys, #1) by K.J. Charles

April 10, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

I hope that my life continues to be full of K.J. Charles books that do not disappoint me. I know I’ve still got about half her back catalogue to go through, and I hope all those unread books are just as fun to read. This one is a romance, of course, but it’s also a heist novel featuring Alec, the estranged son of a duke out to make his father pay for the damage he’s caused Alec and his siblings, so Alec hires two notorious […]
