Hooray for the Book Exchange, and hooray for narfna!

Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

January 26, 2021 by Bothari43 3 Comments

This was a lovely treat from narfna, courtesy of the 2020 Book Exchange. I loved the clever telling of the story-within-a-story, and I almost wanted to know the end of the ‘fictional’ story more than I did the ‘real’ one. Susan Ryeland is an editor. Her company publishes the Atticus Pund series, wildly successful detective books with a Poirot/Gamache-style main character. She introduces herself at the beginning, saying the ninth book in the series would change her life. Then you get to read the manuscript […]

narfna is the best!

December 5, 2020 by Bothari43 6 Comments

Thank you, narfna!!! One of these I’ve heard tons of good things about, and one I have never heard of at all (the mystery), but it sounds right up my alley. I can’t wait to dive in to both!

The Drifter (Peter Ash, #1) by Nicholas Petrie

October 29, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

This book was a gift I got from the CBR Book Exchange a couple years ago (thanks again, Jenny S!), and I just never got around to reading it because crime thrillers with hyper-masculine main characters and lots of shoot-’em up violence aren’t really my thing. I’m glad I gave it a shot, because although this book fits comfortably in that genre, I found the lead character Peter Ash, a veteran of the US Marine Corps, to be sensitively portrayed, and the plot itself had […]

CBR Exchange Goodies!

December 31, 2019 by HasenKlub Leave a Comment

This is an extremely late, but huge thank you to The Chancellor for the book exchange goodies! I’ve had The Day the World Came to Town on my TBR list ever since reading a review of it right here on CBR. I work in aviation, and everybody who was here on 9/11 talks about how absolutely chaotic the logistics of that was. I am really excited to read this one. I received this package of books just before going on a trip to Utah, and […]

Thanks scootsa1000!

December 16, 2019 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

Thank you, scootsa1000, for my fantastic books!  I’m a slacker and didn’t post this until now, but I received this right after Thanksgiving (from a fellow Black Friday shopper, I see!)  I try to put books on my wish list that I don’t think we have in my library (although looking now, we have both of these in somewhere in the system!)  I heard about Heads in Beds by Jacob Tomsky from reviews here (was it Blingle Bells, or ClaireBadger, or Bea Pants? I can’t […]

A Book Exchange Extravaganza From Bothari43

December 12, 2019 by Emmalita 4 Comments

Bothari43 has been very kind to me this Book Exchange season. She sent me three ebooks – Anna Zabo’s Syncopation (sorry about your search algorithm), Tasha Suri’s Empire of Sand, and Lois McMaster Bujold’s Beguilement (The Sharing Knife). In addition to that largess, I now have a lovely cephalopod print and a 5 year daily journal of questions and answers. I am so excited!
