It’s been eight months since the previous novel when Sebastian St. Cyr and Kat Boleyn called off their relationship, and she married Russell Yates. Sebastian has spent those eight months drinking, avoiding his father, and generally checked out. However, when Hero Jarvis witnesses a murder and cover up while doing research on prostitutes and their conditions at the Magdalene House (a home to help “fallen women” back into society), she appeals to Sebastian for his help. Her father, Jarvis, ordered the cover up to protect […]
A death in winter
Finally, after what seemed like forever, I received the new Sebastian St Cyr novel, and devoured it all too quickly. Once again, Ms Harris has written a fantastic historical mystery that is detailed and entertaining. This is book 13 in the series, and while a person could read it as a stand alone, you really shouldn’t. There’s a lot of personal backstory between Sebastian and his wife, Hero, along with the cast of regulars that adds to the story. This one begins, as usual, with […]
Where I Join Everyone Else in Discovering C.S. Harris
Alright, so I completely forgot to review this book when I read it, so you’ll have to forgive me if I’m a little fuzzy on some of the details at this point. I sort of stumbled on this book and thought it was some sort of new, unknown author or something because I had never heard of him. Turns out, I really just live under a rock or something because everyone in the world knows C.S. Harris aside from me. That is really neither here […]
The Forgotten Children of London (And Cannonball!)
This is the 12th (!) Sebastian St. Cyr mystery, which means I have come to the end of the published books. I have really enjoyed the entire series, and Ms Harris has done an excellent job of keeping the storylines interesting. Coming to the end of this is probably not a bad thing with the warmer weather and my lack of free time to read as much as before. It also coincides with my 52nd book and reaching Cannonball! Over the course of three years […]
Murder in a Small Village
Book 11 in the series moves Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, out of London to the seemingly sleepy Shropshire village to visit the grandmother of Jamie Knox (a man who was most likely a half-brother, and killed in the last book because of his resemblance to Devlin) and to hopefully uncover more clues to his parentage. Alas, even in such peaceful surroundings the grim reaper raises its ugly head. A young woman is discovered dead on the bank of the river, and all indications point […]
He’s Lost His Head – How Frightfully Gauche
Book 10 in the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series begins with a grisly discovery of a decapitated man at Bloody Bridge, his head mounted on a spike. The man was Stanley Preston, a wealthy man who owned a plantation in the West Indies. He was also a man who collected mummified heads (what fun), and a lead coffin strap linked to King Charles 1648 was found near his body, indicating he may have been lured to his death with the promise of the head. As […]
