The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

An Offer From A Gentleman by Julia Quinn

Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

I started the Bridgerton series after watching the eponymous show. I have a bookmark that I love that reads, “Never judge a book by its movie”. I actually preferred the show to the first book in the series. The Duke and I is the basis for the Netflix show, and the plot is essentially the same. Daphne Bridgerton, fourth child and first daughter of the Bridgerton family, is in search of a husband. Simon, the duke of the title, is in search of a way […]

CBR Diversions – Literary Couples That Make You Swoon

February 11, 2021 by teresaelectro 48 Comments

With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching, romance is in the air. To complement our featured romance book reviews, this week’s CBR Diversion celebrates our favorite literary couples. Who makes you swoon? I know many of you are historical romance fans who love a reformed rake who meets his match. Daphne and Simon have become quite popular in the zeitgeist after the Netflix adaption of Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I premiered. Personally, I’m a sucker for the slow burn courtship in urban fantasy series. In the […]

I never thought it would happen to me.

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn

February 7, 2021 by Leedock 2 Comments

If book five in the Bridgerton series were a cake, it would be one tier of Mary Poppins, and one tier of Sound of Music with a thin layer of gothic Brontë jam holding the layers together. I may start to use these cake analogies for all of my reviews. I apologize in advance. Mama Violet had been trying to marry off second eldest daughter Eloise for quite some time. However, having refused multiple proposals, Eloise preferred to settle into a comfortable spinsterhood with her best friend Penelope. A safe […]

Isn’t it nice to discover we’re not exactly what we thought we were.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

January 31, 2021 by Leedock 2 Comments

Ah, yes! Thankfully book four helped to sweep book three under the rug. Benedict, I am happy to report, is nowhere to be found and I hope that he stays in the country painting his watercolors, or whatever, for the remainder of the books. For those of you reading prior to watching, this is the book where the whistle is blown on Whistledown. I’m glad that I have put off watching the Netflix series until reading at least this book as I hear that Lady […]

Angry Men and the Women that Save Them: And They All Lived Happily Ever After and Had Many Children

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

January 26, 2021 by LanierHgts 2 Comments

I am not a connoisseur of the romance genre but will occasionally pick up a book that I have seen recommended somewhere (or that is free for kindle).  With all of the Bridgerton hype on Netflix, I figured I would read some of the books before I delved into the show.  Also, I like historical fiction.  So I checked out of my local library the first three books in the series.  This review will cover all three books.  Warning: spoiler alert. I really liked these […]

Sweet and fun fairytale update

September 18, 2016 by maydays 1 Comment

Many of you have recommended this romance to me as someone who has trouble loving romances.  This was really sweet and I thorougly enjoyed it. It’s been reviewed here at CBR a zillion times, but this is a Cinderella retelling. Sophie Beckett is our principled and kind heroine, a blow-by of an earl,  forced into servitude by an evil stepmother and unloving stepsisters.  When she sneaks into a masquerade ball, she meets and falls in love with Benedict Bridgerton, but leaves before revealing her identity. […]
