So what would you do if you found out your parents were super villains? Alex, Nico, Karolina, Gertrude, Chase and Molly choose to run away and plot to take down their parents any way they can. I started out with 4 stars, but it’s really closer to 3. I enjoyed Runaways, but it is no Saga. On the night that the 6 teens find out their parents are super villains, they also find out that some of them have powers, one is an alien, one […]
I was looking for something different to read today, and this girl-power-filled graphic novel fit the bill. Maybe.
I was looking for a little pop culture distraction today. Something easy. Not too long. Something I could immerse myself in for a little while and ignore everything else, and then I remembered that I picked Paper Girls Vol. 1 up at the library the other day and said, YES. THIS. And I’m glad I did. I’m not sure I have a clue what’s going on here. But it definitely distracted me for a little while (in a good way. I think). Paper Girls is […]
Paper Girls, Vol. 2
Where on earth does Brian K Vaughan get his ideas? He’s so inventive, creating fascinating worlds with tonnes of lore just lurking beneath the surface. Everything I’ve read of his provokes far more questions than it answers, and I love it. Paper Girls weaves a thrilling mystery, and I’m glad I waited for the volume instead of picking it up issue by issue, but I’m still anxious to read more! I can’t get into the details of Volume Two without spoiling part of Volume One, […]
Tim Kaine is a Lying Cat (no, really). Or, I talk politics and Saga at once.
Everyone has already reviewed this volume of Saga, so there’s not too much I can add. Also, I read it so long ago, that Volume 7 *must* be on its way out, right? Right? I digress. [ETA: March 28, 2017, according to Amazon. THAT’S SO LONG TO WAIT, CAN WE GET A KICKSTARTER GOING] I don’t know how much my review will add to the discussion, but I plan to give it my best shot. But can I just say, that THIS is my personal […]
Not what I was expecting.
Okay, help, you guys. This hasn’t been reviewed for CBR yet, and I need someone to explain it to me. I literally do not understand what is happening with this comic. I WANT to like it, and parts of it are downright amazing (the art, in particular, has this great retro 80s vibe, and the characters are typical BKV amazingness) but THE PLOT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. People were losing their minds over this, so I couldn’t believe when it I closed the first […]
Now I know what male dragons get up to when they’re alone
Saga. What does one say about Saga? It’s a force of nature. Impossibly grand in scope while remaining completely character driven. And while there are arguably two (and a half) main characters — Alana, Marko, and toddler Hazel — the secondary players are just as well-developed, sympathetic, and alive as the mains. It’s sophisticated yet totally crass, complex and bizarre yet familiar and universal. It’s utterly audacious. It’s the type of story that gives you this disgustingly adorable anthropomorphic baby seal character, right out of […]
