Every time a new volume of Saga comes out, it turns into a race between my wife and I to see who can check it out first from the library. She beat me this time. Luckily, she’s good enough not to react too vocally to what’s happening so that by the time I have a chance to read it, there’s not a lot I feel I can predict. Vol. 7 is getting the plot back on track. I had a complaint about this regarding Vol. […]
The SAGA continues (had to use the pun once).
Where we last left off, our intrepid star-crossed lovers had just been joined by Marko’s parents…awkward. Things get off to a rocky start as mom leaves with Marko to try to recover their ghost nanny (this story is just so fun to write about!) and dad is left with Alana, who is suspicious of him, to say the least. But luckily, their tree spaceship has got her back, and he ends up a little…tied up (pun totally intended). Meanwhile, the unlucky in love mercenary, unlucky […]
Star-crossed lovers + war + assassins = A graphic “graphic novel”
I am no stranger to the amazingness of Brian K. Vaughan. I loved both “Y: The Last Man” and “Runaways” so when a friend offered to loan me “Saga” I was on board. I enjoy graphic novels but don’t frequent shops or seek them out regularly, so I know I’m a bit late to the game (the new volume was just released) but better late than never! And of course, I love this series just as much as the previous two. This is definitely a […]
At least I got more Lying Cat in this one
This is volume 7 of an ongoing series. It’s not the place to start. There is no question that any person of good taste should be reading Saga, but you should start at the beginning with volume 1. I suppose that because the last volume made me very happy, this one was going to make me sad. Damn you, Vaughn and Staples and the emotional roller coaster you send me on. Temporarily stranded on Phang, a tiny comet that Wreath and Landfall have been battling […]
Saga’s Back! Tell a friend!
Each time I read a volume of Saga, I quickly look on Amazon to see when the next volume is going to be released. The minute the next volume is available for pre-order, I furiously check my library catalog to see if it’s logged into the system. And then I wait. Apparently, my library got an advanced copy or something, because I was able to read Volume 7 before its supposed release date with Amazon. Hooray! Of course, that means another painful wait. What are […]
Look, of course I am going to talk about Stranger Things
I guess will mention that I like Stranger Things just fine. But it has a false veneer to it because there’s so many nods to so many things. That’s fun, but it automatically lacks depth or seriousness (and I will not be arguing that this series lacks thematic depth, but it does have narrative depth), because if you’re winking and nodding too much, you’re not doing a whole lot. This series is a lot of fun too. The girls are tough, the writing is tight, […]
