Delicate is not just a setting on the washing machine

Delicates: Collector's Edition by Brenna Thummler

September 29, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Though there is another edition of Delicates: Collector’s Edition by Brenna Thummler already out, I read it via an online reader copy and it is due mid-March 2024. Since I read volume one, Sheets, ages ago and forgot some main points, I think reading this series (Sheets, Delicates, and Lights) all together might be the best way to read. Yet, I am still waiting to find a copy of Lights to confirm this.  There are collectors editions of volumes one and two. But since volume […]

Don’t give up the ghost

Sheets V01 by Brenna Thummler

January 11, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Sheets V01 by Brenna Thummler is an enjoyable story. It is a graphic novel that incorporates interesting ideas of life and death. The here and the afterlife have much in common. There are rules, groups, and even laundry. Thummler’s theme in 1997-1998 might have been fresher then, but now is slightly dated. We have seen the issues with family, friendships, not fitting and dealing with the everyday. Yet, this book is still a cozy read that works well for ages 10 and up. Marjorie is […]

Laundry and Ghosts are Currently Tied for First

Sheets by Brenna Thummler

January 20, 2019 by Jenny S 1 Comment

This was the last book from the pile of books I checked out from my college’s library right before break and it’s fitting that I finished it now—two days before I kick the semester into high gear.  My community college library has a fantastic graphic novel collection—thanks to some awesome librarians and one of my fellow English faculty—and this one caught my eye. In Sheets, Brenna Thummler tells the story of two young people having a rough time.  One of them is Marjorie Glatt, a […]

Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel adventure awaits!

July 30, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I probably should not confess that I have never read Anne of Green Gables or any in the series. I have read other books of L.M. Montgomery and even seen some cinema adaptations. But never read the original. Therefore, when the graphic novel came up for ownership, I grabbed it. Adapted by Mariah Marsden and illustrated by Brenna Thummler Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel is a delightful way to be introduced to Anne (with an E) Shirley. If you have a reader who […]
