Three books in a row, this series continues to be ridiculously good.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

It has never before taken me longer than a week to read a Brandon Sanderson book, and that’s including the previous two 1,000+ page behemoths in this series. But it took me almost three weeks to get through Oathbringer. This more than anything is proof that reading a book fast does not necessarily mean that it’s good, and reading one slowly doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy it. That’s a new thing for me. Usually I inhale books like I do my food, fast and without mercy. […]

Even better the second time through.

Re-reading this was such a good idea. I didn’t re-read Way of Kings before I read this in 2014, and that was probably a mistake. I picked up a lot of detail on this read that I didn’t the first time because #1 was so fresh in my mind. Also, it turns out I had forgotten nearly everything that happens in this book. Like, it was just gone, like I was reading the book for the first time again (and how many times have I loved a […]

I can’t emphasize enough how good this book and this series are.

So I deleted my original review of this book on Goodreads (but not on CBR) because I’ve never been happy with it. I never felt like it fully conveyed what I was trying to say. Heck, I’m not sure I even knew what it was that I wanted to say! I remember thinking this book was so dense and a little impenetrable, and now upon my first re-read, I’ve got none of that. This time around, I sunk right into this world like it was […]

Another Solid Piece of this (so far) Sprawling Epic

December 1, 2017 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

(Book #2 in the Stormlight Archive series) I have been working on this book for about 2 months now: I mostly read at work and it has been busier, also it’s so long, but now I only have one book left for my half-cannonball goal! The next book in the Stormlight Archive series just came out and my cousin actually gave his copy to me for me to read after this one but uuuh…. seeing as it’s page count comes in at 1200+ pages (Words […]

Embattled, Entrenched, or Enslaved….I dunno.

I am at the point with this series where I am still pretty invested, but I feel pretty battered by my reading of this one. I chalk this up to a few possibilities. One, this is the first of the three where I have read it instead of listening to it. I have a pretty clear sense of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading’s voices and how they create all of the characters. With both of the previous ones, I also went hiking a lot while […]

Cosmere Collection

Arcanum Unbounded – 5/5 Stars So I am a big Brandon Sanderson fan. I think he’s goofy and a weird and lives in a world in violence is normal, sex is gross, and the word maladroit is normal. But so it goes. So I haven’t read Elantris or Warbreaker as I set off into this world and though I will soon, I was willing to read anything not directly spoilery about those worlds. Highlights for me: The Emperor’s Soul – This novella is really good. […]
