I have done hard work and must rest now.

April 9, 2018 by narfna 2 Comments

This book was THICK. In every sense of the word. My wrists still hurt and I finished it days ago. My brain still hurts also. I needed the last few days to recover a little bit emotionally before I, a) Wrote this review, and b) Jumped into the last book. Long gone are the days where I could read three 1,000+ page books in a row. (I miss those days.) It’s not even that this book was particularly emotionally taxing. The Gathering Storm was much […]

Episode 1-12: I See Your True Colors Shining Through

March 25, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/03/26/episode-1-12-i-see-your-true-colors-shining-through/ Wherein I review: 39. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson 40. The Stainless Steel Rat Goes to Hell (Stainless Steel Rat #9) by Harry Harrison What began as my least favorite Cosmere book quickly climbed back up in my esteem.  It’s the magics I didn’t care much for it this one, but the characters grew on me.  And the Stainless Steel Rat was less delightful as he multiverse hops.

A Side Quest, If You Will

March 17, 2018 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

Edgedancer is a small novella about the character Lift from Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series, wherein we get a little more exposition regarding her character and how she falls into her role in Oathbringer, after first being introduced via a small interlude section in Words of Radiance. As far as the book goes, it is a quick and fun little adventure that fits easily within the already established story. It does, however, also serve (as mentioned in the post-notes) to solve a few problems and continuity issues within […]

Episode 1-09: Rats! Foiled Again!

March 4, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

In this episode, I further dive into the Stainless Steel Rat space opera, where a slick space criminal experiences 1970’s style hijinks.  I finish up the YA books written by the author of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books author – all of them involving kids fighting some kind of devilish dealing evil power.  And I leap back to the beginning to dip my toes in the Cosmere and ponder how Avengers: Infinity War shit’s gonna get when he finally merges all his shardfolk.

Who let me start on another fantasy series?

March 3, 2018 by llp Leave a Comment

I really liked the first in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series, The Way of Kings, so of course I went all in and requested the second from the library before I was even finished the first. I almost had regrets – I have a pile of Christmas book exchange books waiting for me, each of them so tempting. But, the book came quickly, I already owe $25 in library fines, and so I got started. At the end of the first book, the stage was […]

We can work it out

March 3, 2018 by Shibuyama 2 Comments

The Elantris of the title was once a glorious city full of luminous beings with astounding powers that drew devotees and dependents alike. But the prologue tells us that Elantris abruptly fell, its power vanishing and its residents transforming from near gods to withered and powerless outcasts. The book picks up ten years after this disaster. The ensuing political upheaval and civil war has settled into a precarious peace and wobbly feudal system. The Shaod, the blight that struck Elantris, still occasionally and suddenly afflicts […]
