War

War by Bob Woodward

November 9, 2024 by jmsudar Leave a Comment

I waited until after the election to write this. I am sad now for that decision. War is a book that made me happy we had Biden in office and looking forward to more time with Democrats in control.

Rage by Bob Woodward

September 17, 2020 by Jake Leave a Comment

Apparently, it took Bob Woodward 3.5 years and close to a thousand pages to deduce that Donald Trump is unfit to be President. Good job, Bob. Here’s a cookie. Like Fear, his other work on the Trump Administration, this is less a book with a narrative thread and more a collection of scattered anecdotes from various sources cobbled together the way someone cuts and pastes articles from a newspaper for a scrapbook. In reviewing a bad movie once, Jamelle Bouie said that the film was “the […]

“Fear is Power”

November 28, 2018 by Mrs Smith Reads Leave a Comment

I did not like reading Fear by Bob Woodward, and I suspect that no one else has either. I can’t say that I learned anything new about the Trump presidency—though my worst fears were confirmed. Trump is not smart. He is not thoughtful. He has no human emotions beyond greed and contempt. Trump is lazy and vengeful. The only *facts* Trump knows are the ones he makes up in his head. Trump’s administration are frankly more evil than Trump himself. Despite their belief that they are “protecting” the […]

Boring and Almost Normalizing (CBR10 BINGO)

October 1, 2018 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

CBR 10 BINGO Square: Home, Something, Home: I’m from the USA, as is Mr. Woodward. Best for: I’m not sure. I guess, anyone from the US who wants a little bit more of the story? In a nutshell: A bunch of people who have worked in (and possibly still do work in) the White House tell their tales of a completely inept President and some horrifying policies. Worth quoting: “In the car, Trump described his advisers, ‘They don’t know anything about business.’” “Trump gave some […]

The Book Sensation That’s Sweeping The Nation!

September 12, 2018 by Jake Leave a Comment

Disclaimer: I don’t know what the political boundaries are for this website, i.e. what’s appropriate to talk about and what’s not. I’m a bleeding heart liberal who makes other bleeding heart liberals look like Birchers. I also bear the scars of many a social media fight over politics and have no desire to reopen wounds here. So I’ll be reviewing the quality of this book and what Woodward is saying in its context. Please do not take this as support of an administration I find […]

The Man that Brought Down a Presidency

June 8, 2016 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Well I am unintentionally reviewing two books about the going-ons in the White House back to back. Inside the Residence, which did share some secret insights to the inner workings of the men who run our nation, has nothing on the information Alexander Butterfield shares from his three years in the Nixon inner circle. The Last of the President’s Men is Butterfield’s side of the well known Nixon story; it is handled with care by Nixon aficionado Bob Woodward. My biggest complaint would be the jump between […]
