Another trip to En Zed

Just Come Over by Rosalind James

October 25, 2019 by KatSings 2 Comments

Bingo Update: This is my Birthday square. Rosalind James’ birthday is July 28th. Look, you guys know the drill here. I adore this big dumb series. I know exactly how it will end before I get to the end of the first chapter, and I don’t care a whit. I love travelling to New Zealand in my mind and spending time with these characters, even with as trite and predictable and genre-fied as the stories can be. This is more of the same, so if […]

Middle of the (surface) road

Two Kinds of Truth by Michael Connelly

October 21, 2019 by Wanderlustful Leave a Comment

Another installment in Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch series, this recent (2017) book follows Bosch through two plot lines: 1) the re-opening of an old murder file where a convicted killer alleges Bosch framed him; and 2) a recent double murder tied to the opioid epidemic. This was the fourth Harry Bosch novel I’ve read, and for the first 75 pages I swore I’d read it before (I actually flipped forward a little to see if I recognized the plot points).  I think part of déjà […]

Angels Rule the World

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

October 20, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

After reading Nalini Singh’s short story in Burning Up, I delved into her Archangel series starting with Angels’ Blood. The author celebrated a birthday on Sept 7th. I’m already on the third entry, so it was mere luck I was able to use this review for the Birthday #CBR11Bingo square. We are introduced to Elena Deveraux, a fierce vampire hunter who was born (or cursed according to her father) with the power to track vampires my scent. In this reality, angels are out in the […]

Talking Without Speaking, Hearing Without Listening

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

September 30, 2019 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

CBR11 Bingo Square: Birthday Originally I wanted to read Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere for the birthday bingo square, but since our library had this book available first, I figured it was worth a read. And it certainly hit on a few soft spots in my heart along the way. Emotions? Yeah, I have those in spades, and this book absolutely brought some of them out. Everything I Never Told You centers on a mixed-race Chinese American family named the Lee’s in the 1970’s, whose […]

Huzzah! Bingo!

Well Met by Jen DeLuca

September 26, 2019 by scootsa1000 1 Comment

A few weeks back, I saw the good folks over at One More Page Books showcasing this book on their social media. It looked really cute, so I popped over on my way home from work and bought it. Reader, it was an absolute fricking delight. I have never been to a Renaissance Faire in my entire life. I still don’t ever plan to go to one. But my ignorance and inability to personally relate to the theme of this book in no way deterred […]

Left wanting more… (and hooray – this completes two bingo lines!)

The Eye of the Heron by Ursula K Le Guin

September 11, 2019 by kella Leave a Comment

CBR11 Bingo- Birthday   I had to find a square for my girl Le Guin on this bingo card, and fortunately her birthday was October 21, so that was an easy pick 🙂 I’ve had The Eye of the Heron  on my TBR list for a while, and this seemed like a perfect time to pick it up. I love Le Guin not only because of her writing itself, but for the fact that she is one of the truly great female fantasy/sci-fi writers. Even when […]
