Thank you, Bibliophile!!

November 29, 2021 by narfna 7 Comments

Thank you so much to Junior Cannonballer Bibliophile (according to faintingviolet, she will be joining us next year) for these two Kate Daniels books. They will very much help me in my 2022 project to read All the Kate Daniels. Very timely gift, and much appreciated!

The Perfect Book for a Book Lover

Bibliophile by Jane Mount

January 10, 2021 by jomidi 1 Comment

Bibliophile by Jane Mount is a book about books.  As a book lover I was thrilled to get this as a gift.  It is a perfect book to start a new Cannonball year with. Jane Mount has a cool job, she draws book covers for a living.  She takes a list of a person’s  favorite books and creates a visual representation of their list (designed like the stack of books on the cover of this book).  She has a very nice online shop called Ideal […]

A Unlikable Bibliophile is Actually Possible; I have proof

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Part 1 Vol 1) by Miya Kazuki

June 20, 2020 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I sat on this review a while because I didn’t want to hit cannonball with something I had significant issues with. I have one big issue with Ascendance of a Bookworm (Part 1 Vol 1) and it’s the heroine. The premise is pretty straightforward: Urano is obsessed with books (both as objects and for reading) and she’s about to graduate college and start a job in a library as is her dream. She dies in a book avalanche, and suddenly wakes up in the body […]

I Have Always Imagined that Paradise Will Be a Kind of Library

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

August 19, 2019 by allisonata 2 Comments

Have you ever felt that a book was written just for you? Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore is my Platonic ideal: a novel by an Elder Millennial, set in an alternate San Francisco Bay Area populated by talented, curious people, weird-but-plausible technologies, and endless shelves of books. By the time I discovered the in-story trilogy of fantasy novels and the credible centuries-old secret society, I committed to becoming a Sloan completist. Our initially hapless first-person hero Clay Jannon is looking for a job, any job. His […]

Book Lovers Unite!

January 30, 2016 by NTE 3 Comments

If I tell you this book is quaint in the most lovely of ways, will that make sense to you? Because it is.  Readers of the Broken Wheel Recommend is… wholesome? in some indefinable way that calls to some nostalgic, small-town warmth and hope that just seems to imbue some books.  (Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen is another one of those books, for me.) The kind of feeling that, when you examine it outside of the book, can feel hokey or corny, but somehow […]
