The Plot Thickens

March 24, 2017 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

So my reading progress has crawled to a halt. And it’s all because of these darn books! They’re so engrossing that I can’t seem to find anything else that will hold my attention. Problem is, I’m doing the audio version. Which is great during my long commute times, but not so great when Little Beth Ellen is in the car or at night, because there’s no way I’m sleeping after listening to this. I’ve taken to doing sudoku before bed as no other books compare, […]

The Cuckoo’s Not a Bird in This One

March 16, 2017 by Beth Ellen 7 Comments

So I’ve been trying to set loose reading goals every year for specific genres in order to attempt to widen my reading habits. The first time it was romance, and I was wildly successful in reading tons of new authors. Last year I meant it to be fantasy, but that’s spilling over into this year as well. Oops. But this year is mystery. And I’ve started off with a bang! The Cuckoo’s Calling is the first in the Cormoran Strike series. Cormoran Strike is a […]

Norse Gods Doing Norse God-like Things

February 28, 2017 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

After finishing up two audiobooks that I already know are contenders for best of the year I needed a change of pace. Something relaxing, that wouldn’t attempt to compare to the last two. Enter Mr. Gaiman reading his new collection of Norse Mythology. It was exactly what I needed. Mr. Gaiman starts with the Norse creation myth, and from there spreads out picking and choosing to tell fun and interesting tales involving Odin, Thor, and Loki most of the time. There’s the usual cast of characters […]

The Single Life and Confirmation as to Why I don’t Miss It. Also Sports!

February 23, 2017 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

Someone on here recently recommended this one. They said the heroine was an athlete (tennis by the title) and that there was some romance. Okay, I was sold right there. Thanks fellow CBRer. This one was a decent read that entertained me for a while. Charlotte (Charlie) Silver is the 23rd best female tennis player in the world. After what could be a career ending injury at Wimbledon she decides she needs some changes. She fires her loving coach who helped her go from juniors […]

Pretty Solid

February 22, 2017 by Beth Ellen 3 Comments

3.5 Stars Act Like It by Lucy Parker was quite a popular book last year. Personally, it was one of my favorites of the year and I’ve now read and reread it at least half a dozen times. It was light and fun and pretty much everything I was looking for in a romance. When Ms. Parker’s next book was announced I obviously pre ordered right away. And then it came in early on my Kindle on Monday. Luc Savage is theatre-ish royalty in London. […]

A Crown of Bitter Indifference

February 17, 2017 by Beth Ellen 1 Comment

So my latest romance read has taken me weeks. Weeks of boredom. Thankfully Malin reminded us CBR Romancers that the new Lucy Parker comes out next week (which I preordered months ago). All this is to say it gave me finally the motivation to finish this snore fest so I’m ready to go for Tuesday! A Crown of Bitter Orange is the latest in Laura Florand’s La Vie en Rose series. It’s the only one I’ve read in this series so far, and it’s the […]
