Kidnapped the Wrong… eh, I give it trying to be witty. It’s all just bad.

April 21, 2017 by Beth Ellen 6 Comments

Guys, I was taking one for the team here. The cover was beyond stupid (and a little creepy, is that her front or her back?), the description was ridiculous, and it looked like review gold. And then I read it. And it’s bad, it’s definitely bad, but not burn it down rage inducing. It was clearly a vanity project gone horribly wrong. Our intrepid author thinks she’s a better writer than she is, and desperately needs someone, ANYONE, to proofread. Oh goodness, someone had to […]

Trust Me, It’s Pretty Mediocre

April 17, 2017 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

Trust Me by Laura Florand is her latest in her Paris Nights series. The first in the series, All for You, was fine, the second, Chase Me, was silly and a heck of a lot of fun. Here she picks up in the almost immediate aftermath of Chase Me. Lina Farah is one of Paris’ top pastry chefs. “Jake Adams” is a “civilian” aka special ops fighting the war on terror in Paris. They meet due to the climax of the Chase Me, and their […]

Starry Eyes have worn off on this series

April 7, 2017 by Beth Ellen 5 Comments

Well that was disappointing. For a series that started off pretty solid, followed up with two novellas ranging from excellent to solid, it now continues to go downhill. Star Crossed is the latest in the Fly Me to the Moon series, and it was by far the weakest one yet. Geri Brixton is an astronaut in training. Ish. She’s in training, but she never expects to actually fly a mission (leave that to the men). Beverly (who’s last name I’ve already forgotten) is an African […]

Earth based aka no astronauts really

April 5, 2017 by Beth Ellen 3 Comments

Okay, so I have thoughts. A lot. Bear with me on this one. Dr. Charlie Eason is a mathematical genius. She is a leader of computer science in the 1960’s. She has decided that she wants her work to be worthwhile, beyond just making companies richer or whiling away in academia. She is hired by fake NASA (ASD) by Eugene Parsons, the head of engineering. Parsons got to be the head of engineering by demanding only the best from everyone, including himself. Competent is the […]

Rounding out some character development for the series

April 2, 2017 by Beth Ellen 4 Comments

So grabbing the next books in the Fly Me to the Moon series happened. The next two novellas come together as they’re about how two of the current astronauts in 1962 met and found their wives. I LOVE romance novellas. All the hero/heroine none of the superfluous fluff. A Midnight Clear Frances Dumfries is the daughter and now hostess for her admiral father who runs the Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1948. Joe Reynolds is an ambitious midshipman. Frances and Joe meet at a reception […]

Stars and Rockets and Children/Puppy Plot Moppets

March 30, 2017 by Beth Ellen 4 Comments

So Mrs. Julien recommended this one the other week to the romance crowd. As it was free for Kindle it was an easy decision to snatch it up. Come a late night returning from work travel, and this one got picked up until I finished. It was quick and fun. What more could you ask for? Anne-Marie Smith is new to the neighborhood outside of Houston in 1962. She is shockingly divorced and on her own with her two young kids for the first time. […]
