It’s time for bed, beaches!

Tuck Me In! by Nathan W Pyle

June 13, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

My lunch time pastime is looking at old and new online reader copies. I swap back and forth as to which gets attention during that particular viewing. Recently the new ones were the lucky ones. I saw a thumbnail cover that had a moon and what I assumed was a beach on the cover. It said Tuck Me In!, and my first thought was (to be honest)  that it looked boring as it was going to be just another bedtime story for babies and toddlers. […]

The WOW factor 2

In My Dreams by Effie Lada

May 10, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The only real thing that makes In My Dreams a rating of 4.6 and not a true 5 is the physical size of the actual book. It is a bit too large for my personal comfort. However, the illustrations makeup for that. They are amazing! The colors punch you in the nose! They are minimal so their impact is beyond strong. The story itself is poetic (not poetry in the “stereotypical thought”) and a bit weighty. Take your time and read multiple times. Effie Lada […]

But who reads to the monsters?

I Will Read to You by Gideon Sterer

July 13, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When the publisher’s review of the book starts off with “A gentle blend of spooky and sweet” you pretty much have said the majority of what you need to know about the book. However, you also could say that in I Will Read to You Gideon Sterer has a young boy who wonders who reads to the monsters of the world. He has his mom to read to him, but who do they have? When the mom says no one, because they are monsters, our […]

Get your Ho-Ho on a bit early

A Creature Was Stirring by Heather S Perczynski

The Christmassy Cactus by Beth Ferry

June 16, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Christmas 2023 is coming in over 190 days. And I found two books that will be coming out sooner than that. Both of the below titles were read via an online reader copy, but I will be getting copies when they come out in mid-September 2023 as they are too cute not to own several copies, give as gifts and read as many times as you can. Normally I am not a “rambunctious child” fan. But with A Creature Was Stirring, the mischievous mouse is […]

Orit Bergmana writes a book

Simon Says Good Night by Orit Bergman

May 22, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I first saw the cover of Simon Says Good Night my first thought was that it was an awkward cover. My gut reaction was that it is a “cuter” version of a “Sambo” character (instead of the stereotypical dark character with exaggerated features, the skin was a light chocolate milk, with rosy cheeks giving it an Italian clown look). That alone actually made me want to read it, as I know I really should not judge a book by its cover. When I saw […]

Bedtime or anytime I like you

I Like You: An Encouraging Bedtime Book (Positive Affirmations for Kids) by Kate Allen

January 6, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I like Kate Allen of TheLatestKate fame. Their books, journals, and daily affirmations are just what one needs every so often. Sometimes they can be a bit sugary, but they are always what they are: One person who has been there hoping to help you with words that could shine a little light on the situation. And with I Like You: An Encouraging Bedtime Book (Positive Affirmations for Kids) kids can get in on the action. Everything is sweet and simple. Colors are bright and there […]
