Slightly More Serious Celebrity Memoirs

Too Much Is Not Enough by Andrew Rannells

Boys Keep Swinging: A Memoir by Jake Shears

Blowing the Bloody Doors Off: And Other Lessons in Life by Michael Caine

August 21, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

I’ve got three more memoirs to review here, and then I’ll be caught up with this category! Thank god for CBR Bingo y’all — I’ve only got 33 books left to review… (4 stars) Too Much Is Not Enough by Andrew Rannells I’ll admit before starting this I didn’t have a clue who Rannells was. You might not either. It does not matter to enjoy this book — usually I like to read books by well-known actors because it gives a glimpse into behind the […]

Funny Famous People (CBR11Bingo: Birthday)

Congratulations, Who Are You Again? by Harrison Scott Key

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman

Yes Please by Amy Poehler

Bossypants by Tina Fey

August 20, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Funny celebrity memoirs — definitely one of my favorite categories. I might be stretching the definition of “celebrity” with Harrison Scott Key, but his was my favorite so I’m grouping it in here. Also, god bless Amy Poehler — her birthday is September 16th and she’s my Birthday square! (five stars) Congratulations, Who Are You Again? by Harrison Scott Key Harrison Scott Key wrote this great book I read earlier this year — The World’s Largest Man. It won a lot of prizes. It also […]

Non-Fiction — People Who Lead Interesting Lives (part two)

Leaving the Witness: Exiting a Religion and Finding a Life by Amber Scorah

The Lie: A Memoir of Two Marriages, Catfishing & Coming Out by William Dameron

The Size of Everything by Erin Cole

Freckled: A Memoir of Growing up Wild in Hawaii by Toby Neal

August 20, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

And here we have “normal” people writing memoirs about surviving terrible childhoods, escaping cults, and becoming their true selves. These first two are very much in the vein of books like The Glass Castle or Educated… (4 stars) The Size of Everything by Erin Cole Designer Erin Cole is now a well-known name in bridal couture. But it’s amazing that she survived her childhood. Shuttled between two households full of abuse and neglect, Cole dragged herself out of the wreckage and lived to tell her story. Telling her […]

Non-Fiction — People With Interesting Lives

The Trauma Cleaner: One Woman's Extraordinary Life in the Business of Death, Decay, and Disaster by Sarah Krasnostein

Code Name: Lise. The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII's Most Highly Decorated Spy by Larry Loftis

Black Klansman: Race, Hate, and the Undercover Investigations of a Lifetime by Ron Stallworth

August 19, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Y’all, I read SO MUCH NON-FICTION. I really like books in the category of “interesting lives”, whether or not they’re celebrities or well-known in any way. Two of these books are biographies of very interesting people, and the third a memoir written by the man himself. (four stars) The Trauma Cleaner: One Woman’s Extraordinary Life in the Business of Death, Decay, and Disaster by Sarah Krasnostein This book was not at ALL what I expected, but I ended up liking it even more because of […]

An excellent trilogy of thrillers (with a fourth on the way!)

The Butterfly Garden (The Collector #1) by Dot Hutchison

Roses of May (The Collector #2) by Dot Hutchison

The Summer Children (The Collector #3) by Dot Hutchison

August 19, 2019 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

I used to read a lot of books like these. Jeffery Deaver was my jam for a really long time. Books with FBI agents and police officers catching serial killers who did really horrific things that I tried not to think about too hard. Then I had kids and I started paying attention to the news and books like this begin to stress me out. But for some reason, The Butterfly Garden ended up on my radar with an incredibly high rating on Goodreads and […]

Lara Jean, you sweetheart

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

August 15, 2019 by badkittyuno 2 Comments

In one of the rare instances of me reading a book AFTER watching the movie, I finally got to (my sister’s copy of) To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before this summer — after watching the Netflix adaptation several more times than a 33 year old woman really ought to. I know we were all lusting after Noah Centineo (who, yes, is adorable), but I’ve had a crush on John Corbett since high school so watching him be a doting widowed daddy to a bunch […]
