Slamming My Head Into A Wall Would Have Hurt Less Than Reading This Book

Over a God's Dead Body: A Supernatural Comedy by Joel Spriggs

August 22, 2025 by bjornsnipe 6 Comments

When Dorothy Parker said “This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force”, she wasn’t talking about Atlas Shrugged, she was talking about Over a God’s Dead Body. Not only were there multiple grammatical errors, not only was the writing piss poor, but the plot, to put it bluntly, sucked. This read like the author and a bunch of the dudebros in his frat house/high school/ middle school playground/pick whichever group has the lowest maturity level, got […]

Because language has suffered enough…

Death Sentence: The Decay of Public Language by Don Watson

April 10, 2020 by kniki Leave a Comment

Talk about smashing in the skull of the hand that feeds you.

This book came to me as part of a book offer for Cannonball Readers, in exchange for which we promise to give a fair review. So here is the fair review: in short, I was… disappointed and frustrated, over and over again. Fundamentally, I blame the editor more than the author, because what happened for the most part to make me hate The Rushing of the Brook as much as I did is that it is incredibly sloppy. There is a cutting back and forth […]

If negative stars were possible, that’s what I would give this book.

A brief summary of the plot.  An asteroid hits the moon and moves it closer to Earth, causing swelling tides which flood the coasts, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions that put massive amounts of ash into the air, turning summer into winter.  The story is told through the diary entries of the sixteen-year-old Miranda, who goes from a normal high school student to a person fighting, with her family, for survival. If you’re like me and you love YA speculative fiction, that sounds good, right?  And […]
